Malaysia Autoshow 2024: Chery previews the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery is set to expand the Tiggo 8 Pro lineup in Malaysia. The Chinese automaker just previewed the plug-in hybrid version of the SUV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. The model on display at the event is a left-hand drive model from the Chinese market featuring the ‘e+’ badging.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo engine and dual motors, producing a total system output of 360 hp and a peak torque of 530 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission, propelling the SUV from zero to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds.

The 7-seater SUV's hybrid setup also comprises an 18.3-kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of almost 100 km. The list of available driving modes includes Normal, Eco, Sport, Mud, Snow, and Off-road.

In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo 8 PHEV is identical to the pure ICE-powered version, measuring 4,722 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,705 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2,710 mm.

Design-wise, the SUV looks striking with a “galaxy”-inspired front grille, automatic LED headlights, and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 235/50/R19 tyres. 

Just like the non-hybrid trim, the premium-looking interior of the SUV is likely to come loaded with tons of tech goodies such as dual 24.6-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility, a Sony sound system with eight speakers, leather-wrapped seats, ambient lighting, wireless mobile charging pad, dual-zone automatic climate control and remote engine start.

While no information yet exists on the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV's pricing and availability in Malaysia, auto enthusiasts can catch its preview at the Malaysian Autoshow 2024, which will take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Selangor (MAEPS) from May 22 to May 26, 2024.
