Malaysia Autoshow 2024: BMW 5 Series gets two new additions: i5 M60 x Drive and 520i

The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 has started with a bang, all thanks to the premium automaker, BMW.

BMW Malaysia has introduced not just one but two new models in the 5 Series family: the all-new BMW i5 M60 x Drive and the new locally assembled BMW 520i. Along with the two new premium sporty sedans, the all-new BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport and the first-ever BMW iX2 xDrive30 M Sport were also introduced.

For the first time, fully electric variants are being sold under the BMW 5 Series tag, and we couldn’t be happier. Part of this kit is the latest variant of the locally assembled BMW 520i, the BMW i5 eDrive40, and the all-new BMW i5 M60 xDrive.

Let us now check out the two new additions to the 5 Series family in detail, starting with the all-new BMW i5 M60 Drive.

The all-new BMW i5 M60 Drive showcases a perfect mix of modernity and performance, a fact evident from its design language. Part of its design kit is the brand’s Iconic Glow exterior package, which includes - an M performance kidney grille, sleek body lines, vertical LED strips, captivating DRLs, exclusive M Sport Pro parts (M rear spoiler, M High Gloss Shadowline, M Lights Shadowline, and red M Sport Brakes). Also, part of the package is athletic 21-inch aerodynamic wheels and LED tail lights, not to forget the signature Hofmeister kink.

The car’s cabin is, as expected, loaded with comfort, convenience, and infotainment gear. Some of the inclusions are a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a 14.9-inch touchscreen Control Display, and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System (18 speakers and 655 Watts).

Under the bonnet sits two electric motors that drive pump out a maximum power of 601 hp along with a peak torque of 795 Nm. This setup allows a century sprint timing of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 kmph.

Coming to safety, the car is loaded with cutting-edge features, including -

Further enhancing the car’s exterior appeal is its stunning suite of hues, including Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Phytonic Blue Metallic, Sophisto Grey Metallic, Oxide Grey Metallic, Cape York Green Metallic, and Fire Red Metallic. On the inside, the sedan features premium upholstery options including - Leather Merino Black / Atlas Grey, Leather Merino Copper Brown / Atlas Grey as well as the Leather Merino Silverstone / Atlas Grey.

All-new BMW 520i

The all-new BMW 520i showcases a sleek and sporty exterior with inclusions like an elongated silhouette, a sporty rear section, and new 19-inch aerodynamic wheels. On the inside, the sedan features a perfect blend of elegance and functionality.

 

Part of the new BMW 520i specs sheet are several features that add up to its utility. The list includes -

• Two-spoke steering wheel with flattened bottom & integrated control
• Driver-oriented BMW Curved Display, comprising of a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen Control Display
• Innovative illuminated BMW Interaction Bar with AC control and other function
• Wireless charging tray
• iDrive Controller

What powers the new 520i? The new BMW sporty sedan packs a B48 4-cylinder mill in a 48V mild hybrid version. This powertrain delivers a maximum power output of 208 hp along with a peak torque of 330 Nm. The above configuration allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds and attain a top speed of 230 kmph.

 

Part of the car’s safety kit is an array of features, all aiming to make the owner's life peaceful. For instance, it gets Driving Assistant Plus suit of safety specs including -

• Active Cruise Control
• Steering and Lane Control Assistant
• Lane Departure Warning System.

Coming to its exterior hues, the new 520i will be offered in a few amazing tones, including Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Phytonic Blue Metallic, and Cape York Green Metallic. As for cabin upholstery, buyers can pick up the car in either Veganza Perforated with Quilted Black or the Veganza Perforated with Quilted Espresso Brown.
