Land Rover to introduce a full-electric Range Rover by 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: Reports suggest that Land Rover is getting prepared to introduce an all-electric Range Rover model by the year 2021. The said car is claimed as the most road-focused product of the British brand, and it will have a slot between Evoque and Velar, according to the size. However, compared to Velar, the new SUV will offer more cabin space as it will be based on electric architecture.

Reportedly, the SUV comes with more off-road capabilities compared to its rivals, but it is mainly designed for the road. To give the electric Range Rover the usual JLR model look, the roofline is lowered. As of now, no details are provided on its powertrain and other features. Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar land Rover has only said,

“We will launch things to expand the product portfolio. We won’t stand still. So you can expect these [new models> as you can also expect updates of our existing cars.” Expectedly, it will come with some of the outcomes from the JLR-BMW’s joint venture on making next-gen electric drive systems.

The launch of this full-electric Land Rover SUV is considered as a part of the brand’s initiative to enhance its commitment to offer customers new electrified options. JLR has already planned to introduce 14 refreshed or new models, including electrified variants of existing cars in the next year. From 2021 onwards, there will be a total of 16 more models in a year.

Moreover, as per the company from the year 2020, there will be an electrified variant with every JLR model. The electric variant will be equipped with either a fully electric or a plug-in hybrid option. JLR is also getting ready to launch PHEV and mild-hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Discovery in the next year. A plug-in version of the Defender is also in the queue.
