Land Rover Defender coming to Malaysia: Key highlights
The all-new Land Rover Defender is listed under the coming soon category on the Land Rover Malaysia website. With the automaker revealing a lot of information about the model we’ll like to point out the key highlights in each area, starting with the car’s durability.
Land Rover Defender: Durability
The upcoming Defender is designed to offer optimum durability. It is made of the toughest material and is tested by the automaker to extreme limits. Speaking of which, the Defender has been driven 1.2 million kilometres and has completed more than 45k individual tests, thus ensuring it is the toughest Land Rover.
Further supporting its durability tag are its large, robust 185 mm tyres that prepare it for all kinds of adventure, on any terrain. The car also gets a Satin Protective Film and unique architecture, calling out for a durable exterior.
Land Rover Defender: Capability
The Defender showcases outstanding capability and is engineered to allow the driver to dream big, push harder, and go above & beyond. Also part of the kit is its exceptional all-terrain capabilities and permanent All-Wheel-Drive that makes it unstoppable.
The SUV also allows you to personalise your off-road system response via Configurable Terrain Response technology.
All this along with the car's supremely capable geometry (approach, departure, and break over angle) seals the deal just right.
Other noteworthy capability enhancing gears are -
- Twin-speed transfer box
- Electronic Active Differential
- Independent front and rear suspension & a choice of coil suspension
- Dynamic carry load of up to 168 kg and static load of 300 kg
- Wading capacity of 900 mm

Land Rover Defender: Powertrains
Once launched the Land Rover Defender will be offered in a range of refined and fuel-efficient Ingenium engines - advanced petrol or diesel mills.
The P400 petrol mild-hybrid mill harvests and stores energy normally lost during deceleration and redeploys it, thus reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emission.
As for the P400e Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) mill, it comes with the benefit of electrification and more.
What else?
Well, the Land Rover Defender will be offered in two body styles - 90 and 110 and will feature its very own First Edition model. Also, both the 90 and 110 Defender versions will be offered in five trim levels, starting with the entry-level base, S, SE, HSE, and range-topping X model.
Apart from the above-mentioned P400 petrol mild-hybrid and P400e Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle engine, there is a third option, a 3.0-litre MHEV unit, which is limited to only X and First Edition Defender models.
