Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition revealed, here’s what makes it different from the standard model

KUALA LUMPUR: Land Rover is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its ultimate off-roading SUV, the Defender, which made its first public appearance as the Land Rover Series 1 back in 1948. To commemorate the occasion, the British marque has come up with a limited edition of the SUV, called the Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What makes the Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition different from the standard model?

The Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition features several cosmetic tweaks inside and out along with an exclusive Grasmere Green exterior shade.
  • What powers the Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition?

The Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition borrows the mechanical setup from the standard model. That comprises a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six mill and a 48-volt electric supercharger.
  • Based on the Defender’s X-Dynamic HSE trim, the special iteration will be available in two flavours - two-door 90 and four-door 110, but not in the 8-seater 130.

Let’s find out what makes the Defender Limited Edition different from the standard model.

The big birthday special SUV benefits from several cosmetic tweaks inside and out along with an exclusive exterior shade “Grasmere Green” on the body and the 20-inch wheels. The latter creates a visual connection between the limited edition model and the original Series I, which incorporated body-coloured steel wheels.

Included in the cosmetic tweaks are -

    • Special '75 Years' graphic on the boot lid
    • Ceres Silver front and rear bumpers
    • Privacy glass
    • Grasmere Green finish on the door trims and dashboard
    • Cross-car beam coated with Grasmere Green hue
    • A laser-etched 'Defender' logo inside the cabin
    • 'Resist' black synthetic leather seat upholstery
    • Gear selector wrapped in 'Robustec' fabric

Parts of the SUV’s standard kit are an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment unit, head-up display, tri-zone climate control, 3D surround camera, wireless smartphone charging, 14-way powered heated front seats and a folding fabric roof with sliding panoramic glass roof as an option.

In terms of mechanical setup, the limited-edition Defender remains identical to the standard model. That means it gets energy from a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six mill tied with a 48-volt electric supercharger. The setup is good for making a maximum power of 395 hp and a peak torque of 550 Nm. Spinning the four wheels is an eight-speed automatic transmission.

“Since revealing the new Defender, customers around the globe have fallen in love with it and demand remains extremely strong. This new Limited Edition captures the spirit of the past 75 years with its colour and detail and fuses it with innovative new technology such as hybrid electric power, configurable Terrain Response, software, over-the-air updates and unrivalled all-terrain capability,” said Stuart Frith, Lifecycle Chief Engineer of the Land Rover Defender.
