Jaguar I-Pace appears on the company’s local website

KUALA LUMPUR: If you go and check out the Jaguar Malaysia website, you’ll see a new car in the lineup - the all-electric I-Pace SUV. Before you get all excited, you should know that Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia has a habit to showcase a new car on its website after its global reveal. The past records, however, suggest the company’s intent to launch the car in the local market.

In the Malaysia market, the Jaguar I-Pace was introduced in March 2018 and back then it grabbed a few notable accolades like 2019 German Car of the Year, 2019 World Car of the Year, and 2019 Europen Car of the Year. In addition, the I-Pace was also named the World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car of the Year.

Jaguar has blessed the I-Pace with two electric motors, each mounted on respective drive axel. These potent units punch out 400 PS of maximum power and 696 Nm of peak torque. The setup helps the car to go from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds. A range of up to 480 km is provided by its 90 kWh lithium battery that is positioned on the car’s floor.

The battery on the I-Pace comes with a Type 2 connector and is based on Combined Charging System. Thanks to rapid charging, 0 to 80% charge can be achieved in 40 minutes and with only 15 minutes plug-in time, the car archives a range of 100 km. The same state of charge can be achieved by a 7 kW AC wall box in about 10 hours.

Built on the bespoke aluminium architecture, Jaguar claims the I-Pace to have the highest torsional rigidity amongst the brand’s lineup at 36 Nm/degree. The powertrain layout and cab-forward design help make the interior spacious. With a wheelbase of 2,990 mm, the rear passengers can enjoy 968 mm of headroom 890 mm of legroom. The ones sitting at the front can benefit from 1,013 mm and 1,040 mm of headroom and legroom, respectively.

The boot space of 656-litre can be extended to 1,453-litre with the rear seat down. Also, there is 10.5-litre storage compartment at the rear.
