Honda City Hatchback new teaser released, launch soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Last week, Honda Malaysia confirmed the soon arrival of the City Hatchback in the country with the release of a short video clip on its social media handle. It showcased a clean and clear view of the hatchback’s rear fascia. Well, now it is time to see the car’s front end. Yes, the Japanese automaker dropped a new City Hatchback teaser showing not only the stylish and sporty front fascia but the side profile as well.

As expected, the Honda City Hatchback looks identical to the City sedan hybrid trim from the front. Because it’s also an RS hybrid version. Among the main highlights are a gloss black front grille featuring an RS logo, blue-tinged H emblem, automatic LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, and dual-tone 16-inch wheels.

While the front design does not look new, the exterior shade in which the hatch is painted catches our curiosity. It looks different from the brand’s usual Passion Red Pearl seen on the hybrid City and HR-V models. Honda may be adding a new colour to the palette.

Moving to the mechanical specs, it is now confirmed that the upcoming Honda City Hatchback will be powered by an e:HEV hybrid system that combines a 1.5-litre four-cyl engine with an electric motor. The former acts as a generator or the source of extra power when required while the latter drives the car. The system combinedly produces a maximum power output of 109 hp and a peak torque of 253 Nm. Its fuel consumption is rated at 27.7 kmpl (3.6 litres per 100 km).

The interior specs of the City Hatch are still not known, but again it seems to get the stuff from the elder sibling. These include a hi-tech infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, remote engine start, cruise control, Honda Connect telematics, and Honda Sensing.
