Here’s your first glimpse at 2024 Mini Cooper EV’s retro-futuristic cabin

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mini Cooper Electric is set for a generation upgrade with new styling, revised powertrain offerings, and a completely redesigned interior. Well, we have already seen the exterior upgrades of the next-gen Cooper EV back in April, it’s time for the interior to break covers.

Mini has revealed the first glimpse of the 2024 Mini Cooper Electric interior design, which is inspired by the 1959 original car. However, the Mini designers have skillfully merged it with modern bits, making it a retro-futuristic cabin.

At the heart of the redesigned dashboard lies a large circular display, incorporating eye-catching new graphics and motifs. This ultra-slim OLED screen serves as both the speedometer and infotainment hub. It measures 9.4-inch and is powered by the new OS9 operating system, called the MINI Interaction Unit. It allows users to choose between different themes (available on the menu), changing the look and feel of the screen as well as interior lighting.

The instrument panel is no longer positioned behind the steering wheel; instead, a head-up display is available. The console is also fitted with some physical controls positioned on the oval-shaped panel beneath the screen. 

Also part of the upgrade is a new steering wheel with thick grips at 2- and 10 o'clock positions, a narrow slit for HVAC vents, and distinctive LED lighting patterns integrated into the dashboard.

That’s all about the new Mini’s interior. As far as the exterior is concerned, the hatchback benefits from a trapezoidal grille, LEDs around the headlights, shorter overhangs, and stacked triangle-shaped tail lights. 

The EV will come equipped with a front-mounted electric motor generating a maximum power of 181 hp. The motor will be fed by a 40.7-kilowatt-hour battery pack offering an estimated driving range of 300 km (on the European WLTP test cycle).
