GIIAS 2015: Land Rover Discovery Sport launched
Kuala Lumpur: Land Rover Discovery Sport made an official debut at the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) with a starting price of RM399,000 (excluding insurance, road tax and registration fees). This vehicle comes with a five-year or 3000,000 km warranty, five years or 80,000 km of free scheduled maintenance and a three-year roadside assistance service. Designed with the latest technology, it is considered to be the most advanced and luxurious SUV in its class. Currently, it is made available in two variants, first being a 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine and other being a 2.2-litre SD4 diesel engine.
Talking about the 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine, it shells out a maximum power of 240 PS along with a peak torque of 340 Nm. While the 2.2-litre turbo powered diesel engine delivers a maximum output of 190 PS combined with a commanding torque of 420 Nm. Further, both the variants are mated to a ZF 9HP48 nine-speed automatic transmission controlled through a rotary knob. It has got four settings, specifically, General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts and Sand.
The petrol variant takes just 8.2 seconds to complete a 0-100 kmph sprint on to a top speed of 199 kmph while the diesel variant takes 8.9 seconds to complete this task with a top speed of 188 kmph. If fuel economy is concerned, the petrol variant delivers an average of 8.2 litre per 100 km while the diesel variant churns out a better 6.3 litre per 100 km.
The automaker gives you a choice of 12 exterior shades to choose from. The overall design of this car is bold and progressive. Along with an aggressive grille, it is integrated with headlamps fitted with LED daytime running lights which provide an excellent overall visibility. Its mix of high-strength steel and lightweight aluminium body offers you a best in class off-road performance.
The interior colour options are offered in three choices- Ebony (all black), Circus/Lunar (cream and grey) and Glacier/Lunar (grey on grey). It is also integrated with eight-way powered front seats, configurable mood lighting, electric parking brake and cruise control. A navigation, Bluetooth and reverse camera assisted 8.0-inch centre touch screen is also provided along with the 5.0-inch colour display within the instrument panel.
The active and passive safety features include a seven-airbag mechanism, hill descent control (HDC), gradient release control (GRC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic traction control (ETC), hill start assist (HSA), roll stability control (RSC) and dynamic stability control (DSC). The automaker has also provided some optional features like park assist with parallel and perpendicular parking, automatic high beam assist, lane departure warning, panoramic roof and a meridian powered sound system. For an additional RM 14,440, a 'black design pack' is also offered which includes a gloss-black grille, door mirror caps, front fender vents, 'Discovery' bonnet script, contrast roof and tailgate badging along with a choice of 19-inch or 20-inch wheels apart from the standard 18-inch wheels.
