Facelifted BMW 5 Series SUV launched in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: After Singapore, the facelifted BMW 5 Series has arrived in the Thailand market. And we are hoping to receive the sedan sooner than later, however, without any official confirmation, we have no choice but to rejoice in our neighbor’s joy. So, what all does the Thai-spec BMW 5 Series sedan has to offer -
Facelifted BMW 5 Series variants
The sedan will be available in three variant options in the Thai-market, including the 520d M Sport, 530e M Sport, and 530e Elite. A petrol-only engine option is not available in the market due to the high incentives offered on hybrid vehicles and CO2 emission-based taxation.
Facelifted BMW 5 Series powerplant configurations
As mentioned earlier, the new BMW 5 Series is available in three trim options - two of which (530e M Sport & 530e Elite) feature the updated eDrive plug-in hybrid system, a combination of a 184hp/300Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo mill and 80kW electric motor making 109hp/265Nm. The combined system output reads 292 hp and 420Nm.
The 530e M Sport completes the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 5.9 seconds and can top out at 235 kmph. Both the 530e variants feature an all-electric driving range of 52 km, all thanks to the large 12.0 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the car’s rear seat. These variants have a fuel tank capacity of 46-litres.
Coming to the BMW 520d M Sport, it is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel mill churning out a maximum power of 190 hp along with a peak torque of 400 Nm of torque. A bit slower than the 530e variants, this one touches the century mark of the speedometer in 7.5 seconds and can attain the top speed of 235 kmph.
All the BMW 5 Series models benefit from an eight-speed automatic transmission that transmits power to the rear wheels. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive is missing here.
Facelifted BMW 5 Series design
All the facelifted BMW 5 Series benefit from equipment like a large kidney grille, L-shaped adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assist and cornering assist, 3D-LED tail lamps with smoked surrounds, and soft-closing doors. While the range-topping 530e M Sport rides on 19-inch wheels, the 530e Elite & 520d M Sport stand on 18-inch wheels. The former is the only model to feature an integral active steering wheel and adaptive dampers, both helping it to deliver dynamic performance.
New BMW 5 Series exterior colour options: Phytonic Blue, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Bernina Grey Amber effect, and Bluestone metallic
Facelifted BMW 5 Series cabin features
On the inside, the facelifted model features a revised control layout on the steering wheel, more comfortable seats, and standard-fit dual-zone climate control. The M Sport trims are fitted with a Harman Kardon surround system, a head-up display, and a wireless charger. The base 530e Elite model, on the other hand, gets the BMW Live Cockpit Plus. However, the BMW Connected Drive is offered as a standard fitment.
