Chery Tiggo 7 Pro coming soon to Malaysia; here’s what we know so far

Chery made a grand comeback to Malaysia last year with two models: the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro, which garnered a lot of attention. To expand its portfolio in the local market, the Chinese automaker is now geared for two new launches viz. Omoda E5 electric SUV and Tiggo 7 Pro. Earlier today, the brand confirmed that the Tiggo 7 Pro will hit Malaysian roads within the first half of 2024 and also revealed its preliminary specifications.

The upcoming Tiggo 7 Pro is a C-segment SUV that will lock horns with the Proton X70, Mazda CX-5, and Honda CR-V in Malaysia. In this article, we’ll be discussing all that we know about the upcoming Chery SUV from its design to features to powertrain. So, let’s get started.

Dimensions

Built on the same T1X Comfort chassis as the Tiggo 8 Pro, the upcoming SUV measures 4,513 mm in length, 1862 mm in width, and 1696 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2670 mm. It has a 626-litre boot capacity, expanding up to 1672 litres with the rear seats folded.

Exterior

The Tiggo 7 Pro has a rugged design that appeals to buyers who prefer aggressive and off-road-oriented aesthetics. It features a massive chrome-framed hexagonal front grille incorporating a ‘galaxy-inspired geometric matrix diamond mesh pattern. The prominent grille is paired with sleek LED headlights, T-shaped daytime running lights, and fog lights. Towards the rear, we can find a full-width lighting unit and an integrated tailgate spoiler with triple brake lights. 

Adding to the SUV’s robust and sporty look are bold creases and lines, prominent wheel arches filled with 18-inch alloy wheels, and distinctive rear fender bulges.

Engine

Chery Malaysia has confirmed that the local-spec Tiggo 7 Pro will come equipped with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine producing a maximum power of 197 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The power will be sent to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In terms of performance, the SUV will accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 8.3 seconds.

Interior

The images of the global-spec Tiggo 7 Pro reveal that the cabin is spacious and fitted with high-quality materials. Some of the confirmed interior features that will seen on the local model are - a 24.6-inch dual screen (for instrument panel and infotainment unit), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 540° camera, eight-speaker Sony premium audio system, ventilated front seats, and a Panoramic sunroof.

The Malaysia-spec Tiggo 7 Pro is also likely to get other tech appointments like remote engine start, dual-zone climate control with an air quality sensor & ioniser, power-adjustable front seat with driver’s side memory, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and voice assistant.

Safety 

The SUV has recently passed the ANCAP (Australasian New-Car Assessment Program) crash tests with a 5-star rating. It was assessed under the latest 2023-2025 test criteria and demonstrated all-round performance. Among the standard safety features of the SUV are dual frontal airbags, side airbags for both the first and second rows, and a driver knee airbag. 

As for the driver assistance, the Malaysian-spec model will come kitted with an ADAS pack with 17 functions, confirmed the automaker. The pack in question will include an autonomous emergency braking system, lane support system with active lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, traffic sign recognition, traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, integrated cruise assist, and safe exit warning.
