Chery Omoda 5 EV revealed in Indonesia; launch next year

KUALA LUMPUR: At the ongoing Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2023, the Chinese automaker Chery has put on display the all-new Omoda 5 EV alongside the non-electric Omoda 5, Tiggo 8 Pro, and Tiggo 7 Pro. The electric model is essentially the same car introduced in China earlier this year, however, it is a right-hand drive instead of a left-hand drive.

PT Chery Sales Indonesia, the official distributor of Chery cars in Indonesia, has started accepting bookings for the Omoda 5 EV at a cost of IDR 10,000,000. The deliveries of the EV are expected to begin in early 2024.

The key highlights of the Chery Omoda 5 EV are as follows -

• The EV is powered by an electric motor which delivers a maximum power of 221 hp. It is fed by a 61 kWh battery pack positioned in the car’s floor pan, offering a range of 450 km on the CLTC cycle
• The battery supports both AC and DC charging; the latter takes only 35 minutes for 80% juice-up

• Performance-wise, the electric Omoda 5 runs from a standstill to 100 kmph in 7.8 seconds
• In terms of design, the EV looks different from the ICE-powered car as it incorporates a closed-off, body-coloured panel on the front instead of a large grille available on the non-electric model
• Other changes include a restyled lower bumper, a chrome panel between the headlights, new alloy wheels, and a tweaked rear bumper

• Inside, the electric SUV features a striking colourway mixing ivory, blue, and a copper-like tone and a modern dashboard accommodating hi-tech screens

• Once launched, the Omoda 5 EV will rival the likes of the GWM Ora Good Cat, BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia Niro EV

There is no official information yet available about the Chery Omoda 5 EV's arrival in Malaysia.
