Check out the one-off Mini Cooper SE Convertible

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mini Cooper SE, also known as the Mini Electric, now has a convertible version! The new model is a special one-off unit representing the automaker’s capability to electrify classic open-air driving. Thus, showing what the brand is considering going forward, in the future.

Let’s know the new Mini Cooper SE Convertible in detail -

Powertrain: As the name suggests, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible combines the electric powertrain configuration of the SE hardtop version with the ability to lower its roof.
The foot mounted e-motor generates a maximum power of 184 PS along with 270 Nm of peak torque. The battery specs aren’t revealed yet, however, the same 32.6 kWh lithium-ion unit is expected as the hardtop version. The WLTP-rated range here is quoted at 230 km.

Dimensions: With the same electric engine as the hardtop model, the Cooper SE Convertible will showcase the same 160-litre boot space as the former. Its dimensions will remain identical to the Cooper S Convertible; 3,863 mm in length, 1,727 mm in width, 2,495 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,495 mm.

Soft-top configuration: The Cooper SE Convertible’s roof can be activated at speed of up to 30 kmph and takes 18 seconds to open/close. This functionality, however, comes at a cost, that is, increased acceleration (0-100 kmph) time of 7.7 secs compared to the hardtop version (7.3 secs). Three settings are available here: open, close, and sunroof.

The new Mini Cooper SE Convertible is scheduled to make its US debut at the ‘Mini Takes the State’ followed by other markets.

In other news, the automaker is working on next-gen electric Cooper. It is said to be completely different from the combustion-powered version with a possible power output of 200 hp.

Interestingly enough, the Mini EV range in the future will also include a crossover EV that will reportedly revive the Paceman nameplate.
