BMW X5 enjoys a mid-life facelift; gets new design, powertrain, & tech updates
KUALA LUMPUR: For the model year 2023, BMW has given the standard X5 SUV a mid-life facelift wherein the car gets a new exterior design, and a tweaked powertrain lineup with technology updates. Thus bringing the car back into the spotlight as the first-gen model was the one that helped shape the current large premium SUV market.

Exterior
On the outside, the new X5 showcases thinner headlights, a reshaped grille, new tail lights, redesigned air intake, and a new front bumper which highlights its robust character.
The M Sport model also gains from the facelift in the form of a more aggressive look thanks to the black gloss lower bumper, black kidney grille with bespoke inserts, and a new rear bumper.
Interior
Like the exterior, the X5 enjoys a revised cabin too. For the model year 2023, the car gets the latest version of the iDrive infotainment system, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 14.9-inch driver’s display, a revised dash design, and relocated climate control buttons to the scream.
Not to forget the striking new ‘X5’ strip on the dash. Also, now the standard is the wood interior trim, reshaped air vents, and a smaller crystal gear selector.
Features
The 2023 X5 enjoys a bucket-load of features, be it on the outside or inside. For instance, the entry-level model gets - adaptive LED headlamps, 19-inch alloys, aluminum roof rails, front electric & heated seats, a smartphone wireless charger, and parking assist.
The mid-spec M Sport variant, on the other hand, features 20-inch rims, adaptive suspension, gloss black detailing, and a sportier M body kit.
The range-topping X5 M60i variant comes with 22-inch wheels, an M Sport differential, metallic paint, active steering, and an M Sport Pro Pack (with M Sport seat belts, beefier exhaust system, and red brakes).
Engine
The 2023 X5’s engine lineup needs some major adjustments with every model still getting an 8-speed transmission sending power to an all-wheel drive system. Also, all petrol and diesel units get a 48V mild-hybrid tech. Part of the SUVs engine lineup are the following mills -
- A 3.0-liter straight-six hybridize diesel unit making 294 hp and 670 Nm
