BMW & MINI sold 4k electrified cars in 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia recently revealed that BMW and MINI together sold 4,000 electric cars in 2022, thus accounting for over 31% of the group’s total sales.

Hans de Visser, BMW Malaysia’s managing director said, “The year ahead is building up to be an exciting one and we are ready to continue delivering not just the Premium Ownership Experience, as we have done for the last two decades, but also Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure.”

He added, “As we charge into the new year, we look forward to new opportunities in every aspect of sustainability, beginning with our existing partners in sustainable solutions.”

As for BMW Malaysia’s electric vehicle model-wise sales, the iX came to be the solid performer for 2022. The car registered over 970 new owners and is offered in the local market in two variant options - xDrive40 (launched in 2021) and xDrive50 Sport (launched last week only).

As for other EVs in the company's lineup, the iX3, and i4, the automaker has not offered detailed sales figures, however, the models showed a promising front. In the future more EVs will join the lineup and improve the sales figure, the latest being the flagship i7 sedan.

Coming to MINI Malaysia, the brand’s EV range accounted for 25% of the total sales for last year. With over 1300 units sold in total, the electric ones account for roughly 325 units.

One of the automaker's top performers is the Cooper SE which made its local debut two years back. It was only recently that the automaker updated the EVs equipment list, now offered in a new Nanuq White hue.

Further facilitating the brand's EV sales and network, the automaker is enhancing its public charging set up throughout the country by partnering with several charging solution providers. For the year 2023, BMW Group has big strategic infrastructure expansion plans.
