BMW Malaysia introduces its first-ever electric M model, the i4 M50

KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside launching the iX1 EV, BMW Malaysia has also pulled the wraps off the all-new i4 M50, at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2023. It comes as the brand’s first pure-electric M model in the local market and joins the standard i4 eDrive40 variant in the lineup.

Price 

BMW Malaysia retails the fully imported i4 M50 EV at RM 430,800 (on the road, without insurance). The price goes up to RM 445,800 with the inclusion of the optional five-year unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service programme. With each purchase, the customers also get an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.

Powertrain, range, and charging

The EV is powered by two BMW M eDrive motors (one for each axle), which are good for making a combined output of 544 PS and a peak torque of 795 Nm. These figures allow the car to complete the century sprint in 3.9 seconds and clock a top speed of 225 kmph.

Paired with motors is an 83.9-kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers a total driving range of up to 510 km on a single charge. The latter takes just 31 minutes for a 10 to 80% juice up when using a 200 kW DC charger. However, the standard charging with an 11 kW AC charger completes the 100% task in eight hours and 15 minutes.

Design and features

The EV was first showcased in conjunction with BMW M's 50th anniversary last year, thus it carries the BMW M 50 Years Emblems as standard. It features a sporty character with an M Aerodynamics package, a rear diffuser insert, and M rear spoiler. Inside the cabin, the EV is fitted with several M trimmings, M Anthracite Headliner, M front Sports seats, and M seat belts.

The equipment kit comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch centre touchscreen powered by BMW OS 8, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, triple-zone climate control, a Qi wireless charger, 525-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system with 17 speakers, system, Active Protection for Pedestrians, Acoustic Protection for Pedestrians, Driving Assistant Professional, and Parking Assistant Plus.

The all-new BMW i4 M50 exterior colour palette includes - Mineral White, Black Sapphire, M Brooklyn Grey, M Portimao Blue, and Sanremo Green. As for the interior, the buyers will be able to choose from two options viz. Leather Vernasca in Black with Blue Contrast Stitching and Leather Vernasca in Cognac.
