BMW i4 and iX3 facelift coming soon to Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW is expanding its footprint all over the world, and Malaysia is also a part of the plan. It recently opened the pre-bookings of the much-awaited iX electric SUV in the country alongside confirming the soon arrival of the i4 and iX3 facelift models.
Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “This is a milestone for the BMW Group, even more so for us at BMW Group Malaysia. We have been in the driver’s seat in accelerating innovation, awareness on new and sustainable technology for the automotive industry, shaping the infrastructure for premium electrified vehicles in Malaysia since 2015. Our success in Malaysia today is cemented by our position as the leader in electrified mobility here, which is underlined by an impressive delivery of over 2,200 units of electrified vehicles last year alone.”
Let’s talk about the upcoming models, in brief, starting with the iX3
BMW iX3 facelift
Unveiled globally in July last year, the iX3 facelifted version is equipped with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology that makes it one of the most anticipated vehicles in its segment. The premium mid-size vehicle shares most of its exterior and interior design cues with the latest X3, although blue splashes all around the car create an apparent difference.
About the EV’s specs, there is no official information as of now. However, it is most likely to draw its power from a single rear motor with 286 PS and 400 Nm of torque. With these numbers, the car will be able to hit the century spirit in 6.8 seconds on its way to the max speed of 180 kmph. A 74 kWh battery pack can be mated to the setup for a range of 460 km on the WLTP cycle.
BMW i4
Another BMW i model that is ready to run on the Malay roads is the i4. The automaker confirmed that this premium sports sedan will be fitted with a single 250 kW power unit delivering a maximum power output of 340 PS and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The power will be sent to the car’s rear wheels through a single-speed transmission. The century sprint is rated at 5.7 seconds along with a top speed of 190 kmph, while the claimed WLTP range is 590 km with the 83.9 kWh battery pack.
About the prices and launch date of the upcoming electric cars, BMW Malaysia is yet to make announcements.
