Audi cars go cheaper by up to RM37k following zero-rated GST

KUALA LUMPUR: Just like all the other car brands in the country, Audi Malaysia also released a revised price-list for its models, excluding the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 6%. Following the recent government announcement, the models are discounted by up to RM37K starting June 1, 2018.

The new Pakatan Harapan government aggressively campaigned during last elections and removal of GST was one of their major promises. The government has planned to replace GST with Sales and Services Tax (SST) over the next few months.

As of now, the government has not announced any specific date for introducing the SST, but according to Tun Daim Zainuddin of the government’s Council of Eminent Persons, it will take around two to three months. That said, customers can take advantage of this fairly large tax-free window to own one of the Audi models at a discounted price.

The new on-the-road prices (excluding insurance) pose savings starting from RM12373.58 on the Q3 1.4 TFSI and going up to RM37,043.35 on the A8 L 3.0 TFSI Quattro. The base A4 1.4 TFSI which currently retails at RM218,900 will be available at RM206,524.72 (saving of RM12,375.28), while the A6 1.8 TFSI will be available at RM309,375.24 as against RM327,900. Also, the Q7 2.0 TFSI Quattro will retail at RM495,233.03, which is RM29,666.97 lesser than its current price.

The savings are pretty handsome, but interestingly they are not flat 6% less even though GST has completely been scrapped off. The reason being the inclusion of GST-free registration charges like road tax, registration fees and ownership endorsement fee in overall on-the-road, without insurance price. But who’s complaining?

Much to the customers' delight, Audi Malaysia also announced a 6% reduction in the prices of packages like the S line and Tech Pack, which can be specified for certain models. Not to forget, all Audi vehicles sold by Audi Malaysia are fully imported and come with a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
