All-new Lexus RX bookings open in Malaysia, price and specs revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Get ready, Malaysia! The highly anticipated arrival of the fifth-generation Lexus RX is just around the corner. The automaker has started accepting bookings for the luxurious SUV from today. The sole variant on offer is the RX 350 Luxury, priced at RM 468,888 (on the road, without insurance). Included in the price is a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

So, what does the 2023 Lexus RX offer at this price point, let’s know.

Exterior

The revamped SUV sports a new spindle body design featuring a neat blend of seamless grille and raised bonnet. The grille is flanked by restyled tri-beam LED headlights and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Accentuating the SUV’s side profile are 21-inch alloys boasting a Hyper Chrome metallic finish, black claddings, prominent creases, and a sloping roofline. At the rear, the SUV features a pointed tailgate with ‘Lexus’ script in the middle, wide-width tail lights, and a diffuser. 

Colours 

Lexus Malaysia offers the SUV in five striking colours viz. Graphite Black Glass Flake, Sonic Iridium, Sonic Quartz, Sonic Titanium, and Sonic Cooper. 

Dimensions

The new-gen Lexus RX is based on the GA-K version of the Toyota New Global Architecture that not only reduces the SUV’s weight by 90 kg but also enhances its wheelbase, width, and height. The new Lexus RX dimensions are -

Height	1,695 mm (+10 mm)
Wheelbase	2,850 mm (+60 mm)

Interior

Based on the Tazuna concept, the interior of the new Lexus RX looks more cohesive than its predecessor. It benefits from a bigger 14-inch infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other creature comforts are -

Engine 

Powering the all-new 2023 Lexus RX is a 2.4-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, which is good for making a maximum power of 279 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 430 Nm from 1,700 to 3,600 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a Direct Shift eight-speed automatic transmission mated to a full-time all-wheel drive system.

In terms of performance, the SUV runs from nought to 100 kmph in 7.6 seconds. Three selectable drive modes are - Normal Eco and Sport.

Suspension

The suspension duties are handled by an Adaptive Variable Suspension that features two damping force modes - Normal and Sport). It is paired with the MacPherson struts at the front and a five-arm multi-link unit at the rear. 

Safety

As for safety, the Malaysia-spec Lexus RX 350 Luxury comes kitted with the Lexus Safety System+ ADAS pack as standard. The said pack comprises 

• Dynamic radar cruise control with stop-and-go and Curve Speed Reduction 
• Lane departure alert
• Lane tracing assist
• Autonomous emergency braking
• Road sign assist
• Adaptive high-beam system with BladeScan matrix tech

Additionally, the safety kit also includes Blind Spot Monitor with Safe Exit Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a digital Panoramic View Monitor.
