All-new Land Rover Discovery Sport unveiled; gets new mild hybrid powertrains
KUALA LUMPUR: Land Rover has introduced the new Discovery Sport, which like the Evoque rides on the company’s latest Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA). The said modular mixed-material platform is built with electrified powertrains and latest technologies.
When compared to the previous-gen model, the all-new Discovery Sport looks identical and even carries forward the trademarked C-pillar. Furthermore, the dimensions are also near similar, with the new SUV only being 2 mm shorter and 3 mm higher. Thus, breaking the dimensions down to 4,597 mm long, 2,069 mm wide, and 1,727 mm tall. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,741 mm.
However, when looked closely, the car does get several aesthetic tweaks, especially on the outside. At the front are the new LED headlamps with double U-shaped DRLs, these units also function as sequential indicators. A similar setup can be found on the rear of the car as well. The grille has been resigned, and the front bumper now features sleeker air intakes. Making the front and rear bumper look more aggressive is the sportier R-Dynamic trim the has been added. The all-new Discover Sport is available in many wheel options that go as big as 21-inches.
The cabin is as captivating as the exterior or shall we say even better. A lot of design and features seem to have been borrowed from the Velar and Evoque. Included in the list is a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, new dashboards with gloss black trim, pistol-style gear, wireless smartphone charging, digital ClearSight rear view mirror, 4G WiFi hotspot, and ClearSight Ground View system.
The new Discovery Sport will be offered in a number of petrol and diesel mill choices, all displaying standard displacement of 2000cc but with different tunings. There will be 200 PS and 249 PS gasoline options, and 150 PS, 180 PS, and 240 PS diesel ones.
As usual safety kit of Discovery Sport gets driver assists functions like a Driver Condition Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and, Lane Keep Assist.
