All-new 2022 Honda Civic Si: What is on offer

Yes, the new Honda Civic Si is finally here. Based on the 11th generation Civic sedan that made its debut in April this year, the sporty version is said to offer the best handling and is equipped with the best gears. The new version is also said to be the most fun-to-drive Honda Civic ever. Don't expect a coupe version, only a sedan body style this time.

Let's get started with the 2022 Honda Civic Si details and specs -

Engine configuration

Powering the new sporty Civic is the tried and tested 1.5-litre four-cylinder VTEC Turbo mill which is re-tuned to pump out a maximum power of 200 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm at 5,000 rpm.

The power is sent to the wheels via the same old six-speed manual transmission that comes with an improved shift feel and 10 percent shorter throws (thanks to a new leather-wrapped aluminium shift knob and more rigid shift lever mounting).

The helical limited-slip differential routes power to the front wheels, while the dual-coil silencer exhaust system improves exhaust flow by 27 percent. The new Civic Si gets an improved Active Sound Control system adding to the aural experience by making high-quality sound over a wide range of engine speeds into the cabin.

Ride and handling

The new Civic Si is fitted with a 26 percent lighter single-mass flywheel for a 30 percent reduced inertia. It all transcends into broader power curves, snappier throttle response, and better driveability.

The sporty sedan's showcases enhanced handling thanks to a 13 percent increase in bending rigidity, 8 percent enhanced torsional rigidity, 8 percent stiffer front & 54 percent rear springs, and 12.7 mm rear track for added stability.

The suspension front includes reinforced upper mounts for MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear suspension setup. Also, thicker front and rear stabiliser bars limit the body roll. Not to forget, the steering shaft and the steering rack pinion gear are connected by a 60 percent stiffer torsion bar.

Helping the new Civic Si stop are obviously larger brakes - 312 mm front and 282 mm rear discs.

The sporty Civic version comes with a drive mode system with three modes - Normal, Sport, and new Individual. When switched to Sport mode, the car's throttle response increases, steering assist decreases, allows the driver to select rev-match on or off, deactivates idle-stop system, and instrument accent changes from white to red in this mode. The new Individual mode, on the other hand, allows the driver to select preferred engine response, instrument panel display colour, and steering effort.

Exterior & interior highlights

From the looks of it, the new Civic SI seems like a striking, sporty sedan. A few highlight design bits are -

  • 18-inch, 10-spoke matte black wheels wrapped with 235/40 profile all-season tyres
  • New grille with a honeycomb mesh
  • Subtle changes on the front bumper & reshaped rear bumper with two large oval exhaust tips and boot lid spoiler
  • Black outer rearview mirror & window surrounds
  • Exclusive Blazing Orange Pearl hue

As for the cabin, it reminds one of the regular Civic, however, the sporty Civic Si variant benefits from a few specific touches like -

  • Sports pedals
  • Red contrasting stitching on the steering wheel, doors, shift boot, centre armrest, and shift knob
  • Red accents on honeycomb dash panel
  • Model-specific front seats with integrated headrests & prominent shoulder and lower thigh side support
  • Raised lower cushion at the front for better thigh support reducing fatigue

Providing drive with all the required info is a 7-inch instrument display with a digital tachometer on the left and a multi-info screen in the centre and a physical speedometer dial on the right. Fulfilling the passengers’ infotainment and connectivity needs is a 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. A 12-speaker Bose sound system is also on board.
