A special-edition JCW celebrates Cooper’s 60 years of presence
KUALA LUMPUR: John Cooper, the owner of the Cooper Car Company, realised the sporting potential of its cars 60 years ago. The Cooper-fettled Minis were winning all the races and rallies making their presence loud and clear. In the current situation all the Mini models rolling off the production line get a Cooper badge of some description. That is the impact and importance of the Cooper name.
Coming back to Cooper’s 60th anniversary celebration, MINI has introduced a special-edition JCW. Limited to only 740 units, of which 60 will go to Britain, it is offered in both manual and automatic options. The former is priced at £33,800 (approx. RM195k), while the latter retails for £35,500 (approx. RM205k).
What powers the special-edition JCW?
Nothing surprises under the hood here, as like the normal JCW, this one too is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill that pumps out a maximum power of 228 bhp.
With these numbers, the vehicle can complete a century sprint in over six seconds and it attains a top speed of 246 kmph.
Talking about the special-edition’s aesthetics, each unit is finished in ‘Rebel Green’ hue with white contrasting mirrors, roof, and door handles. There are also thick white stripes on the hood.
Further asserting its 60-years of amazing presence, Mini has placed several momentos all over, like the number 74 on the doors and bonnet reminiscent of its first win, won by Snetterton Lombank Trophy. Also present are several retro Cooper and Mini logos scattered across the car's body, both inside and out.
Other standout inclusions included on the special-edition JCW are-
- Red accent line & Cooper logo on the door sill trims, C-pillars, side scuttles, and crater spoke of the steering wheel
- 18-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Circuit Spoke two-tone design
- Driver’s door frame showcases an emblem with John Cooper’s signature
- A handwritten note “1 of 740” & words “60 Years of Mini Cooper -The Unexpected Underdog”
Not to forget, the special-edition model gets signature of three generations of Cooper - John, Mike and Charlie Cooper, on the dashboard.
Furthermore, customers can also add items from MINI Accessories range, including an exterior piano black high gloss finish that’s part of the automaker’s Waistline Finisher package, alternative Midnight exterior hue, Mini Sport aerial & tailpipe trims in carbon finish, and punched & slotted John Cooper Works brake discs.
