A million units of Hyundai Tucson sold in the US

KUALA LUMPUR: The American market seems to be favouring the Korean automaker Hyundai pretty well. The carmaker’s popular Tucson SUV surpassed the one million sales mark.

This achievement became all the more special, knowing the fact that Tucson entered the US market only 16 years ago, i.e., in 2014. It took the car three short generations to reach the impressive sales figure.

Hyundai Motors America (HMA) on reaching the milestone said, “Within Hyundai’s formidable SUV line-up, the Tucson is our strongest selling SUV model, with April retail sales up 7% year-over-year. As of April 2020, more than two-thirds of all Hyundais sold were SUVs — reflecting the growing popularity of our SUV line-up with US consumers.”

The company added that throughout its 16-year history, the Tucson SUV had been known for its efficiency, outstanding quality, and durability, but Hyundai customers love for it says it all.

The Tucson started its life-cycle as an entry-level SUV, and over the course of time, it has evolved into a stylish, feature-loaded people carrier that boasts a beautifully sculpted exterior, well-equipped interior, and all-around performance.

In the US, Hyundai offers Tucson in two engine options - a 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre four-cyl petrol engine and comes either with front- or all-wheel-drive configuration. Even the base variant is equipped with an array of upmarket features like lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, a 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity.

HMA further revealed that each of the Tucson SUV generations achieved not less than a 4.8-star rating on SureCritic.com.

As for the Malaysian-spec Tucson, the SUV is also available in two engine options. One is a 155 PS generating 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and the other is the more powerful 1.6-litre four-cyl turbo mill making 177 PS. The car sports the automaker’s famous Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, making the Tucson one of the handsome options available in the market.

Apart from the looks, the Tucson has more pros to it like its advanced high-strength steel body that makes it one of the safest options around. Other options include in its safety kit are - rear parking assist system, electronic stability control, rear camera with dynamic guidelines, and more.
