KUALA LUMPUR: Mini has revealed the new-generation Cooper Convertible in the international market. The pint-sized drop-top car shares the exterior and interior layout with the three-door hardtop, offering a mix of classic Mini charm and modern functionality.

Fully automatic soft top
The new Mini Cooper Convertible is equipped with a fully automatic fabric soft top that can be opened in just 18 seconds while driving at speeds of up to 18 mph. It can be completely retracted or partially deployed in a 40 cm "sunroof" mode.
The infotainment system features an "Always Open Timer," which tracks the open-top driving time. And there is also a “rain warner” smartphone app that alerts the owners about the potential rain in the area where the vehicle is parked with the roof down.
Exterior
Design-wise, the upgraded Cooper Convertible features the brand’s iconic front grille and classic round LED headlights. However, the rear appears quite distinctive from the new Cooper and Cooper S models with a new tailgate design and rounded lights featuring new patterns.
The car comes with different wheel sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches. The JCW trim styling pack brings on board special bumpers and black accents for a sportier appearance.
Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the new Cooper Convertible measures 3879 mm in length, 1744 mm in width, and 1431 mm in height. The boot space is estimated at 215 litres with the roof up, which drops down to 160 litres when the roof is stored.
Interior
Inside, the new Convertible features a go-kart steering wheel and a 9.5-inch circular OLED touchscreen serving as both the instrument cluster and infotainment unit. Depending on the trim, the car comes equipped with wireless phone charging, JCW sport front seats, a head-up display, Harman /Kardon sound system, augmented reality navigation, heated front seats, Parking Assistant Plus, and more.
Engine
Mini offers the new-gen Cooper Convertible in two petrol engines - a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 163 horsepower and a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo gasoline mill good for making 204 horsepower. Both come mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.
This soft-drop Cooper is likely to be the last new Mini with a petrol engine before the brand moves to electric cars in the next few years.

The production of the Mini Cooper Convertible has now returned to the brand’s historic Oxford factory in the UK, after nine years of operations in the Netherlands at the VDL Nedcar plant.
