    2025 BMW iX: What’s new?

    New variants

BMW has made changes to the variants’ nomenclature; the previously available xDrive 40 and xDrive 50 have been rebranded as the xDrive 45 and xDrive 60. The top-spec M60, on the other hand, is now replaced by the more powerful M70. This update aligns with the brand’s recent EV naming strategy.

    Performance and efficiency updates

As the new nomenclature suggests, all variants are now equipped with more powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive setups and new battery packs.

    • The base-spec BMW xDrive 45 now delivers a maximum power of 402 hp (80 hp more than the predecessor) and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The motor is fed by a new 94.8-kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of 600 km.
    • The xDrive 60 is tuned to generate 536 hp and 765 Nm and features a new 109.1kWh battery unit, which lets the EV cruise up to 685 km (55 km more than the XDrive 50).
    • The top-spec iX M70 variant churns out up to 659 horsepower and 1100 Nm of torque with the launch control. It comes mated to a 108.9-kWh battery featuring upgraded cells and chemistry, providing a range of 590 km.

For better output levels, the motors now incorporate an enhanced silicon-carbide inverter, reducing power losses and thus enhancing overall performance. Adding to that is the new battery tech that offers approximately 30% more usable energy, leading to increased driving range. BMW has also added a new Max Range function to the driving modes.

    Higher charging speeds

The charging capabilities of the EV have also been upgraded. The entry-level model now supports up to 175kW DC charging speed while the higher variants can charge at 195 kW speed. When it comes to AC charging, all three variants support 22 kW sockets.

    Chassis and handling upgrades

The upgraded BMW iX also offers better driving dynamics thanks to the new active rear-wheel steering system (exclusive to the M70), which helps the vehicle manoeuvre better at low speeds and keeps it stable at higher speeds. The automaker has also fine-tuned the ride-control system for improved driving comfort. As for superior stopping power, the M70 gets M Sport brakes.
