2024 Subaru Outback arrives in Malaysia; starting from RM 280,390

KUALA LUMPUR: TC Subaru, the official distributor of Subaru cars in Malaysia, has launched the all-new sixth-generation Outback in the country. The upgraded SUV is offered in two variants - 2.5i-Touring EyeSight and 2.4 XT Touring EyeSight, priced at RM 280,390 and RM 310,390, respectively.

The new Outback is built on the Subaru Global Platform, like the other recent Subaru cars. It measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,745 mm. The ground clearance of this Japanese station wagon-SUV is estimated at 213 mm.

The base-spec Outback 2.5i-Touring EyeSight comes powered by a 2,498-cc, four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine churning out a maximum power of 188 PS and a peak torque of 245 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed Lineartronic CVT paired with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. In terms of performance, it runs from zero to 100 kmph in 9.6 seconds and hits a top speed of 206 kmph.

The top-spec Outback 2.4 XT Touring EyeSight, on the other hand, is equipped with a 2,398-cc, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol mill tuned to generate 249 PS and 350 Nm. The engine is mated to the same eight-speed Lineartronic CVT and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as found on the base-spec model. The setup propels the SUV from zero to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds before maxing out at 221 kmph.

The upgraded SUV comes with Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) mode selector, which lets drivers choose between two settings - Intelligent and Sport. There is also a dual-function X-Mode for handling different conditions - Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. As for suspension, the SUV incorporates MacPherson struts at the front and a double wishbone layout with subframe and coil springs at the rear.

In terms of design, the new Subaru Outback features a hexagonal-shaped front grille and angular LED headlights, which are equipped with C-shaped daytime running lights. As for improved visibility in adverse weather conditions, the SUV also comes kitted with front and rear fog lamps.

The exterior is further enhanced with black body cladding that not only adds to its rugged appearance but also provides added protection. Other key highlights include - LED tail lights, heated side mirrors with indicator, black roof rails, and 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels.

Setting the XT apart from the standard model are satin-finished roof rails, dual exhaust tips, a powered tailgate with distinctive badging, and 18-inch gloss-finished alloy wheels.

The interior of the new Outback looks almost the same as the Legacy with the similar dashboard layout and shape of the instrument panel. The feature kit includes -

Coming to safety, both variants of the new Outback come loaded with all essential active and passive safety gears. These include eight airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, and Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.  

The EyeSight ADAS pack comprises - Adaptive cruise control, Autonomous emergency steering, Lane departure warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane centring assist, Emergency Stop Signal, Pre-Collision Braking, Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection, High Beam Assist, Driver Monitoring System, Speed sign recognition, and Intelligent speed limiter.

On the purchase of the 2024 Subaru Outback, TC Subaru offers a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
