2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA arrives with new look and features

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has introduced significant changes for its trendsetting compact vehicle, the CLA. For the model year 2024, the coupe gets new technology, tweaked styling inside and out, and an updated driver assistance package.

The updated CLA benefits from a restyled radiator front grille incorporating a new star mesh pattern. The grille is flanked by the new LED High-Performance headlamps with modernised graphics as a standard fitment. Also part of the kit is new LED tail lights and three additional wheel designs offering customers an enhanced options list for individualisation. 

The new colour choices available for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA are Hyper Blue and Starling Blue. The former is exclusive to the CLA models.

Inside, the coupe gets an all-new vibe thanks to the new trim elements, which are finished in a dark carbon look and features open-pore brown linden wood or brown microfiber. The steering wheel comes wrapped in Nappa leather as standard along with a heating function exclusive to the AMG Line variant. 

As for the seat upholstery, the automaker used MB-Tex/microfiber which largely consists of recycled materials. This is an important step towards carbon neutrality as the brand aims to bring the CO2 emissions (per passenger car in the new vehicle fleet over the entire life cycle) to half by the end of the decade as compared to 2020.

The list of upholstery colours includes - Black, Bahia Brown, Sage Grey, Titanium Grey Pearl/Black, and Red/Black.

The interior is kitted with the following upgraded tech appointments -

• 10.25-inch infotainment display and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster paired with the latest-gen MBUX system
• Revised telematics system
• Wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Additional USB-C port and increased USB charging capacity; all USB ports are now illuminated
• More intuitive "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant
• Optional Burmester surround sound system with the immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience
• Enhanced driver assistance technology with improved Lane Keeping Assist 
• Next-gen Parking Package with longitudinal parking and 360-degree visualisation using 3D images

On the mechanical front, the CLA250e PHEV trim benefits from a more powerful electric motor that now generates a maximum power of 109 PS (7 PS more than the predecessor) ) and a peak torque of 300 Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to 163 PS/270 Nm 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine taking the combined system output to 218 PS and 450 Nm. Sending power to the ground is an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Other engine options on offer are - 

• 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder in two different tunings churning out 136 PS and 230 Nm and 163 PS and 270 Nm
• 2.0-litre turbo-four making 224 PS and 350 Nm mated to an all-wheel drive system
• Three 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel mills with maximum output levels rated at 190 PS and 400 Nm 

The all-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA coupe will hit the US showrooms later in 2023. About its arrival in ASEAN markets, no information is available yet.
