2024 GWM ORA 07 previewed in Malaysia: Up to 408PS/680Nm, 650km of range, price starting from RM170k?

KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motors (GWM) has made headlines again in Malaysia with the official preview of the Ora 07, marking the company's highly anticipated follow-up to the launch of the Ora Good Cat a year prior. 

For those who have been waiting impatiently for its arrival, GWM has opened up the booking books for this new electric vehicle (EV), which promises to blend style, performance, and eco-friendliness into a compelling package for Malaysian consumers.

Launch and Availability

The Ora 07, also affectionately known as the Lighting Cat, is poised to challenge established players in the electric sedan market, such as the BYD Seal. Pre-orders are now open, with the official launch expected later this month, signaling GWM's commitment to expanding its EV portfolio in Malaysia. 

Performance and Specifications

The Ora 07 will be offered in two distinct trims: Long Range and Performance. The Long Range trim features a front-mounted single motor capable of producing 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque, powered by an 83.5 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery. 

This setup provides an impressive range of up to 640 km on the NEDC cycle. Conversely, the Performance trim boasts a dual-motor AWD system, delivering a robust 408 PS and 680 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, with a slightly reduced range of 550 km due to its enhanced power output.

Both versions support AC and DC fast charging, the latter of which can replenish the battery from 30-80% in about 30 minutes.

Design and Features

It also includes daytime running lights, LED tail lights, an adaptive electric rear spoiler, 18-inch alloys, and a panoramic glass roof. The vehicle will be available in three captivating colors: Crystal Purple, Amethyst Gray, and Jade White.

While its design is uniquely its own, it's hard not to draw parallels with the unmistakable look of a Porsche, particularly reminiscent of the Panamera.

Safety is a top priority

GWM asserts that the Ora stands as one of their safest vehicles, having been subjected to rigorous evaluations, including China's inaugural intensive EV rollover challenge and the intersection collision test, guaranteeing exceptional durability and safety.

Some of the safety kit include, 360-degree cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, Parking Distance Control and intelligent Adaptive cruise control.

Interior Amenities

Other notable features include a head-up display, ambient lighting system, an 11-speaker sound system, and an automatic air-conditioning system, ergonomic massage seats for front passengers ensuring both comfort and connectivity on the road. GWM also calls the dash a sporty tri-dash which complements the multi-functional steering wheel, offering drivers great control.

 The GWM Ora 07, merging high performance, sleek style, and the latest technology, promises to make a notable impact on Malaysia's expanding electric vehicle scene. 

Although the official price will only be disclosed at the launch, our knowledgeable prediction hints at a competitive pricing strategy for the Ora 07, beginning around RM170k.

However, we're optimistic for a starting price closer to RM160k. At the RM170k range, it begins to encroach upon the BYD Seal's domain, sparking an intriguing battle in the market.

The debut of the GWM Ora 07 heralds the start of an ambitious year for GWM in 2024, with the anticipated rollouts of the Haval H6 HEV in Q2 and the Tank 300 in Q3.
