2023 Toyota Vios to make debut in Malaysia on February 24

KUALA LUMPUR: A couple of days back, UMW Toyota teased a short video on its website and social media with a ‘Defy’ theme. While the teaser succeeded in not dropping any hint about the upcoming model, it began the anticipation waves of the all-new Vios arrival. Proving that right is a recent Instagram post by actor Sean Lee.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the dimensions of the new Toyota Vios?

Based on a new Daihatsu New Global Architecture, the new Vios measures 4,425 mm (+5 mm) in length, 1,740 mm (+10 mm) in width and 1,480 mm (+5 mm) in height.
  • How will the upcoming Toyota Vios be powered?

The upcoming Toyota Vios is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that kicks out 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque.
  • The latest teaser shows off the all-new Vios from a few angles, telling us the revisions we will get to see on the revamped sedan. There will be new LED headlights and new tail lights along with the new bumpers and larger 17-inch alloy wheels that are available on the Indo-spec model.

First revealed in Thailand as the Yaris Ativ back in August, the fourth-gen Vios is based on a new Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA). The new platform lends the sedan a larger footprint. It now measures 4,425 mm (+5 mm) in length, 1,740 mm (+10 mm) in width and 1,480 mm (+5 mm) in height. The wheelbase has grown to 2,620 mm, which is 70 mm larger than the predecessor.

In terms of mechanical bits, the Thai-spec Vios benefits from a new 1.2-litre 4-cylinder Dual VVT-I engine, which is good for making a maximum power of 94 PS and a peak torque of 110 Nm. The Indo-spec version, on the other hand, continues to be offered with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated mill as the previous model that kicks out 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque. The local-spec sedan is also likely to be equipped with the same NA engine.

Inside the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios, we might see a number of new advanced features like a new 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display, new steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustments, a fully digital 7.0-inch instrument panel, new digital air-conditioning controls, electric parking brake, 64-colour ambient lighting system, advanced sound system, and more.

As per the official ‘Defy’ teaser, the launch of the new Toyota model will take place on February 24 i.e. tomorrow.
