2023 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe lands in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé has also landed on Malaysian soil today, alongside the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe. While we have already delved into the details of the new GLC, it's now time to focus on the GLE model.

Mercedes-AMG has given a significant upgrade to the GLE Coupe, enhancing both its exterior and interior to make it sportier and more appealing than ever. It is offered in a sole mild-hybrid performance variant, priced at RM 873,888 (on the road, without insurance).

The key highlights of the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe are as follows - 

Exterior

The exterior design of the new AMG GLE reflects the hallmark AMG style as it combines sportiness with practicality. The front fascia sports new Multibeam LED headlamps, redesigned daytime running lights, and a revised apron with jet-wing-shaped side air intakes. 

The car also features a radiator grille in AMG design, an AMG emblem on the bonnet, an AMG Night package with high-gloss black finishes on selected elements, an AMG spoiler lip, 22-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels, illuminated running boards, a panoramic sliding sunroof, revised LED tail lamps, and a two-pipe exhaust system.

Engine and performance

Powering the upgraded model is a 3.0-litre in-line six turbocharged engine mated to an Integrated Starter Generator and a 48V system, combinedly kicking out a maximum power of 435 PS and a peak torque of 560 Nm.

The transmission duties are handled by the AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed automatic gearbox hooked with a fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The coupe accelerates to 100 kmph in 5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 kmph. Adding to the performance is Airmatic suspension with AMG Active Ride Control roll stabilisation.

Interior

The cabin of the new Mercedes-AMG GLE dons new angular air vents with chrome louvres, dashboard and door beltlines in ARTICO man-made leather, and AMG carbon-fibre trim. It is kitted with an AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather with AMG steering wheel buttons and multi-contour front seats with AMG Nappa leather black upholstery.

Safety

The coupe also comes fitted with the Driving Assistance Package Plus comprising advanced safety features like Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Extended automatic Restart in traffic jams, Exit warning function, Active Steering Assist, and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side. Also part of the kit are side bags in the rear, a Parking Package with a 360-degree camera, and GUARD 360° Vehicle protection.
