2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance arrives with F1 turbo technology

KUALA LUMPUR: To step up its game in the world of performance cars, Mercedes-AMG has come up with the all-new C63 S E Performance. Yes, that’s the next evolution of the C63 S combined with the E Performance badge representing the brand’s new line of hybrids and plug-in hybrids. This is based on the latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class and boasts a never seen formula with pretty impressive performance figures. Let’s dive deeper into the details.

Starting with the mechanicals, Mercedes-AMG has ditched the mighty 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged power plant in favour of a 2.0-litre inline-four turbocharged engine and an electric motor set up, which means one step down compared to the last generation. But, if we see the numbers, the smaller engine produces a staggering output of 680 PS and a peak torque of 1,020 Nm all thanks to its F1 turbo technology and hybrid power.

The hybrid system is mated to a nine-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission and 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system offering a Drift Mode, just like the brand’s other AWD models.

In terms of performance, the latest AMG model can hit the century sprint in 3.4 seconds (0.6 seconds quicker than the earlier RWD V8 model) before achieving a top speed of 280 kmph.

Ensuring the smooth ride & handling are adaptive suspension, variable sports steering, limited-slip rear differential, a multi-mode stability control system, and composite brakes with six-piston at the front and single-piston at the rear.

While dropping the V8 engine could be quite disappointing for AMG fans, the automaker understands the challenges the automotive industry is facing. With hybrids and pure-electric cars coming in, the game is changing. 

Design-wise, the all-new 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance looks meaner than its predecessor with huge lower air intakes, a power-bulge on the hood, and flared wheel arches. The front appears longer than the standard C-Class to accommodate the cooling system. 

Taking the car’s sportiness to new levels is a slightly lowered stance, side skirts, a prominent diffuser, a large boot lid spoiler, and trapezoidal-shaped exhaust outlets. It rolls on 19-inch wheels shod with performance tyres as standard with 20-inch units also available as option. One can also choose from a plethora of paint finishes and personalisation options on offer.

Further, confirming the identity of the model are several exclusive badges like a red-accented C63 badge, an AMG emblem on the bonnet, and E Performance emblems.

The interior of the performance C-Class is kitted either with AMG sports seats or second-gen AMG Performance seats wrapped in Nappa leather upholstery with contrasting accents. Other key inclusions being - Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system with  AMG-specific dual displays, AMG Performance steering wheel with drive mode dials and a head-up display. 

The automaker is yet to announce the Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance pricing and launch details.
