2023 Lexus RX introduced: Here’s all you need to know about the 5th gen SUV

The RX SUV has always been broken ground for Lexus ever since it arrived in 2015. With the introduction of the fifth-generation model, we expect the same level of success. The new RX comes with a refreshed design and features and a range of e-powertrains that is in line with the automaker’s ‘Lexus Electrified’ vision.

Let’s discuss the fifth generation of the Lexus premium SUV, the 2023 RX, in detail. Starting with its platform and dimensions.

2023 Lexus RX: Platform & Dimensions

The 5th gen RX rides on the GA-K platform that also underpins the latest EX, NX, and several Toyota models. Compared to the previous generation model, the new platform lets the 2023 RX shed almost 90 kg, resulting in a lower center of gravity (by 15 mm).

The weight reduction is made possible by the aluminum front fenders and 2 GPa class hot-stamped steel B-pillars.

On the dimensions side, the new RX measures 4,890 mm in length (same as before), 1,920 mm in width (more by 25 mm), and 1,695 mm in height ( less by 10 mm). The wheelbase, however, has grown by 60 mm, i.e2,850 mm. It also gets wider tracks, 15 mm front & 45 mm rear.

Overall, the new car offers more room for passengers and easy access to the boot, thanks to the lower load height.

2023 Lexus RX: Powertrain

Lexus is offering the new RX SUV in four powertrain options; however the automaker has shared details of just three. The info about the PHEV mill will be shared later by the automaker.

RX 350: Powering the RX 350 is a 2.4-litre four-cyl turbo mill making a maximum power of 275 hp and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed
automatic transmission. It is offered in both FWD and AWD drivetrain options.

Performance specs - 0 to 97 kmph in 7.5 sec (FWD) & 7.2 sec (AWD)

Fuel economy - 10.2 kmpl

RX 350h: This is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cyl hybrid unit generating 246 hp and 316 Nm of torque. The CVT unit sends power to all the wheels (AWD drivetrain).

Fuel economy - 14 kmpl

RX 500h F Sport Performance: The performance variant gets powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo hybrid mill that churns out a max power of 367 hp and a peak torque of 550 Nm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with a Direct4 AWD drivetrain.

2023 Lexus RX: Exterior

Lexus offers the new RX in six trim levels, namely Standard, Premium, Premium+, Luxury, F Sport Handling, and F Sport Performance. Depending on the variant picked, the SUV will be available in the following hues - Grecian Water, Ultra White, Eminent White Pearl, Caviar, Nebula Grey Pearl, Iridium, Matador Red Mica, Nori Green Pearl, Copper Crest, and Nightfall Mica.

The SUV for the 2023 model year gets a new version of the brand’s spindle grille with diamond-shaped sections in the upper portion. As for the range-topping variant, it gets a differentiating mesh pattern with a woven design.

The side profile showcases an upward arching sculpted section leading to the rear fenders. The rear comes with full-width taillamps.

2023 Lexus RX: Interior

On the inside, the new RX gets a two-level dashboard, with the center touchscreen being the main attraction point. The latter is offered in two sizes - 9.8- and 14-inch and offers accessibility to functions.

The new RX feature kit is - standard triple-zone climate control, hazard light, heated steering wheel, two USB ports, around-view monitor, memory seat, a trip computer, digital instrument cluster, and a panorama glass roof.

Lexus offers six upholstery choices for the new RX, including Peppercorn, Macadamia, Palomino, Black, and Birch. Also, there are four trim styles on offer, Dark Graphite Aluminum, Black Open Pore, Black Cascade, and Ash Bamboo.

2023 Lexus RX: Safety

All variants of the new RX SUV benefit from the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. This suite of driver-assist features includes - a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed management, intersection support with motorcycle detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, and an emergency driving stop system.

Lexus is offering the Advanced Park system as optional to expand the parallel parking support.
