2023 Bentley Continental S range unveiled, here’s what makes it different from the standard model?

The most famous Bentley nameplate, the Continental, has completed 70 glorious years of its existence. And, this special occasion is marked with the reveal of not just one, but two new models. Yes, the Crewe-based automaker has expanded the Continental lineup by adding the Continental GT S and Continental GTC S (convertible version) to the list.

The new S models follow the comfort-oriented Azure trim, released just last month. While the Azure focuses on providing comfort and wellbeing to the occupants, the S range is all about driving pleasure and appearance. The latter also stretches the brand’s S range, which comprises the Bentayga S and Flying Spur S models. 

Now, let’s discuss what makes the 2023 Bentley Continental S range different from the standard model?

Sportier Styling

Compared to the standard Bentley Continental, the S models look sportier thanks to the black gloss radiator front grille and dark-tinted headlights and tail lights. The entire exterior bright ware is sprayed with gloss black, apart from the Bentley logo and lettering being finished in bright chrome. A Gloss black wing further adds to the car’s darker exterior look. 

The S range is instantly recognizable with the S badging on the front fenders and the all-new 22-inch wheels. The latter sports five Y-shaped spokes finished in gloss black (Pale Brodgar Satin finish as an option) and paired with red-painted brake callipers for a perfect sporting contrast. Another unique wheel option for Continental S models is gloss-black 21-inch tri-spoke units with bright machined finishes.

Striking and performance-focused interior

The new Continental GT S and Continental GTC S feature a unique two-tone colour split interior. The steering wheel, gear lever, seat cushion, and backrests are wrapped in Dinamica upholstery, while the leather hide is employed on the doors, instrument panel, central console, and seat bolster. Other variant-specific highlights are -

• Driver instrumentation with the sporting theme and performance-focused graphics, borrowed from the Continental GT Speed
• S design seats with a quilting option and the ‘S’ badge on the headrest. Embroidered Bentley wings can also be opted at no additional cost.
• Metal S signature badge on the dashboard
• Illuminated Bentley treadplates with an ‘S’ plaque instead of ‘Bentley Motors Ltd’ 

Same V8 engine with a louder exhaust

Under the hood, the new Continental GT S and Continental GTC S equip the same tried and tested 4.0-litre V8 engine available on the standard model. The engine churns out a maximum power output of 550 PS at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 770 Nm between 2000-4500 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, which allows the grand tourer to hit the century sprint in just 4.0 seconds before attaining a top speed of 318 kmph).

Unfortunately, the W12 engine could not make its way to the S models, as the brand leans into a more responsive and agile character.

But while the engine continues to be the same, the new models come mated to a standard Sports Exhaust that amplifies the cross-plane V8 beat.

Bentley Dynamic Ride system

Another sporty element added to the Continental S range is the Bentley Dynamic Ride system. It is an advanced 48V electric active anti-roll control system offering better handling and improved ride comfort. But how? By delivering up to 1300 Nm of torque in just 0.3 seconds, motors within these anti-roll bars actively compensate for cornering forces to minimise body roll under hard cornering. At cruising speeds, it decouples the left- and right-hand wheels from each other for better ride comfort.

So, that’s all about the stuff differentiating the Continental GT S and Continental GTC S from the standard trim. As for pricing and launch of the latest models, Bentley is yet to make an announcement. However, considering the above-mentioned specific mods, the price is expected to be higher than the standard GT’s £157,900 (approx RM 867,031).
