2022 Volvo V60 Recharge V8: First Impression

Globally unveiled in 2018, the Volvo V60 has finally made its way to Malaysia after a long wait. Volvo Cars Malaysia offers this modern and versatile plug-in hybrid estate in just one variant i.e. Recharge T8 Inscription, locally assembled at Shah Alam. 

The V60 wagon is priced at RM 286,909.59 (on-the-road without insurance and service and sales tax). Included in the price is a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.

Let’s check out the first impression of the 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge V8 in detail, starting with exterior styling and features.

2022 Volvo V60 Exterior

The second model of the brand’s 60 Series lineup, the V60 slots under the larger V90 and is built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). It appears to be a shrunken iteration of the V90 and shares good looks with its elder brother. 

There is an Inscription six-point grille on the front with a chrome frame and a diagonal bar. It is edged by full-LED “Thor Hammer” headlights featuring active high beams and active bending lights. The front bumper is sharper and more aggressive than the V90, lending the wagon a sportier look.

On the sides, the luxury car is fitted with hi-tech door handles that come with illumination and ground lighting. These are teamed up with black diamond-cut 19-inch rims wrapped in 235/40R19 tyres. Other significant inclusions are bright finished roof rails, Panoramic moonroof, and a handsfree power-operated tailgate,

Volvo offers the new V60 in four exterior colours - Bright Silver, Onyx Black, Thunder Grey, and Crystal White.

When it comes to dimensions, the V60 is 175 mm shorter and just 48 mm lower than the V90. It measures 4,761 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,427 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,872 mm.

Hop inside the V60 wagon and you will be greeted by a clean and elegant interior loaded with tons of advanced bits. It has been deliberately designed as “a space to meet the demands of modern life”, says Volvo.

The automaker offers the luxury model in two interior decor options - Linear Lime Decor Inlays with brown upholstery and charcoal headliner or Driftwood Decor Inlays with black upholstery and blond headliner. These are paired with an Orrefors Crystal gear knob and a non-sport steering wheel with Unideco inlay. The wagon has 529 litres of boot space, which is expandable up to 1,400 litres.

2022 Volvo V60 Engine

As the name suggests, the Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged 4 cylinder engine coupled with a rear electric motor unit. The engine generates a maximum power output of 320 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm, while the e-motor delivers 87 hp and 240. The combined system output is rated at 407 hp at 5700 rpm and 640 Nm from 1200 - 5400 rpm. Drive is sent to the wheels via an Aisin eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The plug-in hybrid setup is combined with an 11.6 kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of 49 km. The fuel consumption is 2 litres per 100 km.

On the performance front, the car is able to hit the century sprint in just 4.6 seconds before attaining a top speed of 180 kmph.

The V60 is equipped with a Volvo IntelliSafe ADAS pack, which includes advanced driver assistance systems like Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, autonomous emergency braking with the pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal detection, evasive steering assist, rear collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, run-off road mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, and oncoming lane mitigation.
