2022 Porsche Taycan GTS launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche Taycan marks a new era of sporty electromobility in the automotive world. We saw a new version of this electric sports car, the GTS, at the LA Auto Show held in Nov 2021, which slots in between the 4S and Turbo. Well, the good news is that this mid-range performance EV has now entered Malaysia. Sime Darby Auto Performance, the official distributor of Porsche cars in Malaysia, launched the all-new Porsche Taycan GTS in the local market today.

The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS is priced at RM 708,000 (excluding registration costs). Included in the price is an ongoing SST rebate on fully-imported vehicles and the current road tax exemption for EVs.

Touted as the sporty all-rounder of the Taycan range, the GTS has two electric motors; one on each axle. The e-motors are the same available on the Taycan Turbo but are specifically tuned for the GTS. The setup delivers a total system output of 517 PS that can be further increased with a power over-boost to 598 PS. The peak torque is rated at 850 Nm. 

The EV is equipped with a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion Performance Battery Plus pack that offers a WLTP-rated range of 504 km, claims Porsche. This means the GTS is the first Taycan to break the 500-km mark.

How fast is the Porsche Taycan GTS? 

On the performance front, the Porsche Taycan GTS can run from naught to 100 kmph in 3.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.

For an extra touch of performance, the EV gets an adaptive air suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management, which is exclusively tuned for the GTS. Optional rear-axle steering is also available for the next level of sportiness.

On the exterior, the EV features Sport Design Package, with larger air intakes, deeper side skirts, matte black 20-inch wheels, and a rear diffuser. There are loads of blackened or darkened details. 

SDAP offers the EV with a Premium Package as standard, which includes features such as an onboard 22kW AC Charger, charging cable, Home Energy Manager, Mobile Charger Connect, four-zone climate control, powered-folding side mirrors, passenger display, ParkAssist with surround view, and more.

Also part of the kit is the panoramic roof with Sunshine Control that can transform the roof glass from clear to opaque. The roof has nine different segments that can be switched individually, a world’s first in the automotive industry.
