2022 MG ZS EV arrives in India with a slew of updates

KUALA LUMPUR: While we are still waiting for the launch of the MG ZS EV in Malaysia, our neighbour, the Thai market is all ready to get it this month. And, we just heard that the electric B-segment SUV has been launched in the Indian market. Let’s have a look around the India-spec ZS EV as we might get the car with the same specifications.

MG India offers the updated ZS in two trims - Excite and Exclusive, powered by a 176PS electric drivetrain. As compared to the outgoing model, it is up by 33 PS. 

The updated EV also gets a larger 50.3-kWh battery pack in place of the 44-kWh unit offering an increased range of 461 km (42 km more than the predecessor) on a single charge. On the performance front, the EV runs from zero to 100 kmph in just 8.5 seconds.

Coming to the cosmetic tweaks, the new MG ZS EV now looks cleaner thanks to the de-cluttered new front bumper. The deep concave layout of the grille is also swapped by an enclosed unit and the charging socket has been moved to the left. Also, parts of the kit are restyled 17-inch alloy wheels, new LED headlights and DRLs, new LED tail lights, and a revised rear bumper.

Hop inside the new MG ZS EV and you will be welcomed by a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system mated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay,  i-Smart connected car tech, and a new digital driver’s display. Other significant interior features are automatic climate control, cruise control, a powered driver’s seat, and a panoramic sunroof. 

For the passengers sitting in the back, the ZS EV now has AC vents, an armrest with cup holders, and a central headrest.

As for safety, MG brings onboard new safety bits like blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera. 

In India, the MG ZS EV price starts at Rs 21.99 lakh (around RM 119,677) and goes all the way up to Rs 25.88 lakh (approx RM 140,830).
