2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA gets new features, price starts at RM 241k

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has been very busy over the past couple of weeks, having launched the all-new W206 C-Class, followed by the all-new Mercedes-Maybach S580 and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 back to back.

Just when we thought they were done for now, comes another announcement that the brand’s compact models have also been updated for 2022, which includes the locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Available in two trim levels which are the GLA 200 Progressive line and the GLA 250 AMG Line. Priced at RM 241,479 and RM 271,164, respectively, the SUVs are now RM 9,000 and RM 5,000 dearer than the outgoing versions.

As the base model, the GLA 200 now features a 64-colour ambient lighting system, making the cabin a more exciting place to be in.

Other upgrades include safety and convenience systems like the Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, and Wireless Charging.

As for the GLA 250 AMG Line, available for the first time are the Wireless Charging system and the Adaptive Highbeam feature.

Mechanically, both variants remain unchanged. While the GLA 200 is powered by a turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 163 hp and 250 Nm, the GLA 250 is fitted with the same 2.0-litre engine as before, kicking out 224 hp and 350 Nm.

As for the transmission, the GLA 200 gets a seven-speed dual-clutch unit while the GLA 250’s engine is paired with an eight-speed DCT gearbox.

In case you’re wondering about the GLA’s performance, the entry-level GLA 200 is capable of sprinting from naught to 100 kmph in 8.7 seconds while clocking a top speed of 210 kmph. The GLA 250, on the other hand, is able to do the century sprint in 6.9 seconds at a top speed of 240 kmph.

Other than that, the list of standard equipment includes the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system which comprises the dual 10.25-inch instrument and infotainment displays, single-zone air-conditioning, keyless entry, push-button start, parking assist, a reverse camera, a Light and Sight package, a hands-free powered tailgate, and power-adjustable front seats with memory.
