2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Variants explained
A couple of days back, we witnessed the launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class on our shores. The new sedan redefines luxury with its high-quality workmanship, cutting-edge features, interior ambience, and spaciousness. It is now available for sale in two imported versions - C 200 Avantgarde Line and the C 300 AMG Line decked up with different styling packages and mechanical stuff. Sitting at the bottom of the new C-Class lineup, the C 200 Avantgarde Line is priced at RM 288,334 (on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of a 50% SST rebate). In terms of exterior, the sedan boasts a sportier yet upmarket styling with the Avantgarde Line pack. It includes a radiator front grille with the centrally-positioned three-pointed star badge flanked by an aluminium strip.
Other highlights of the Avantgarde Line pack are LED High-Performance headlights with adaptive high-beam assist. LED tail lights, and 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped with 225/45 R18 and 245/40 R18 tyres at the front and rear, respectively.
Inside the new C-Class C 200 Avantgarde Line, you get the following features -

Under the hood, it carries a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and a 48V integrated starter generator. The engine generates a maximum power output of 204 hp between 5,800 - 6,100 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm between 1,800 - 4,000 rpm, while the electric motor pumps out 20 hp and 200 Nm. This mild-hybrid mill is paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission sending power to rear wheels.
On the performance front, the sedan runs from naught to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 246 kmph.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 300 AMG Line
On top of the new C-Class range, we have the C 300 AMG Line that retails for RM 330,681 (on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of a 50% SST rebate). With this version, you get a sporty AMG Line pack, featuring a distinctive pin-shaped pattern front grille, and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels shod with 225/40 R19 front and 255/35 R19 rear rubbers. Also, part of the kit is a panoramic sliding sunroof.
Over and above the standard interior kit, the full bells and whistles C-Class variant also benefits from -

Just like the C 200 Avantgarde Line, the C-Class C 300 AMG Line also gets energy from a mild-hybrid mill, but here we can find a different combination. That includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, petrol delivering 258 hp at 5,800 rpm, and a 27-hp electric motor. The former kicks out 400 Nm between 2,000 - 3,200 rpm while the latter makes 200 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
When it comes to performance, the top-spec C-Class hits the century sprint in 6 seconds on its way to achieving 250 kmph top speed.
In terms of safety, you will get a 360-degree surround-view camera with this model instead of a reversing camera. All the other safety specs are identical to the C 200.
