2021 Subaru Levorg made its official debut in Japan
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, we caught the first glimpse of the new Levorg station wagon in the prototype form, which now has been turned into a full-fledged production model. The automaker has added the all-new Subaru Levorg in its Japanese line-up today. It is based on the brand's new global platform, which first made its appearance on the fifth-generation Impreza.
The second-generation Levorg may have built on some of Subaru's recent styling cues, but it's all-new. It looks almost identical to the concept; the front design features a sharper fascia with interesting and edgy new headlights and a larger hexagonal grille. At the back, the automaker has added additional sculpting for a sportier stance.
Under the bonnet, there is a new powertrain carrying a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer gasoline engine that generates a maximum power of 177 PS at 5,200-5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm between 1,600 and 3,600 rpm. The engine is paired with a newly developed Lineartronic CVT and the brand's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Subaru claims an average fuel economy of 13.7 kmpl according to the WTLC cycle.
The new Subaru Levorg is bigger than the outgoing model as well as it has a larger wheelbase, thanks to the new platform. The wagon now measures 4,755 mm in length, increased by 65 mm, and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm up by 20 mm. The increased dimensions not only increased knee room for rear passengers, but it also expanded the boot space from 522 litres to 561 litres.
Heading inside, the new Levorg boasts an 11.6-inch touchscreen display in portrait orientation and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. On the safety front, the wagon is equipped with a next-generation EyeSight safety suite, which includes 360-degree sensing. The higher-variant also gets the electronically controlled adjustable dampers, a number of sporty interior improvements, and five drive modes: Normal, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
Subaru plans to reveal more details and price of the 2021 Levorg on October 15, 2020; however, the customers can now pre-order the car in Japan. Unfortunately, the automaker has not yet made any indication about bringing the new Levorg to Malaysia.
