2021 Renault Megane RS facelift is likely to arrive next year
KUALA LUMPUR: Renault Megane RS is a hot hatchback that has firepower and practicality in a single package. It is based on the fourth-generation Megane and is available only in a five-door version, unlike its predecessor. With a two-variant lineup, the hatchback hit the Malaysian shores the previous year. Well, here we bring insights about the 2021 Renault Megane RS, which is expected to land next year in the country.
The French automaker has already revealed a mid-life facelift of Megane RS earlier this year in Europe. Even though most of the visual changes are minor, a few mechanical upgrades are meant to push the new lineup to the front when it arrives in Malaysia in about a year’s time.
The big news is that the engine deployed on the track-focused RS Trophy will now be deployed on Megane RS as well. It can deliver 300 hp of maximum power and 420 Nm of peak torque (30 more than before, with EDC transmission) coming from the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. A new plug-in hybrid variant, dubbed as E-Tech, may also join the range as part of the facelift.
Visually, the 2021 Megane has not changed much; actually, it did not have to. The design is as contemporary as it gets, so it was little to be done to improve its looks for the fifth generation. Still, Renault toyed it a bit with redesigned front bumper, air deflectors, and wings.
The new Megane RS is also expected to have new Pure Vision LED headlamps that promise to bring 30 percent more visibility. Also, three new colors are likely to be added to the existing color palette, viz. Solar Copper, Baltic Grey, and Highland Grey.
Coming to the changes inside the cabin, the new hatchback will feature an updated look of the central console and the controls fitted on it. The new Megane would have a revised and more up-to-date cockpit and a digital dashboard with satellite navigation. In place of existing 8.7-inch touchscreen infotainment, new Megane will feature a 9.2-inch unit.
Power adjustment controls for the driver seat and new upholstery option are also expected to be added on the 2021 Megane RS specs sheet.
Furthermore, an upgraded suite of advanced driver-assist technologies will enable Level 2 self-driving. With this, the hatchback can stay in lane and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front at speeds up to 160 kmph.
The refreshed version of the Megane RS may touch the Malaysian shores in the first half of next year.
