2021 Proton Iriz and Persona facelift teaser out, launch on Aug 5

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Proton Iriz and Persona facelift models have already been sighted in camouflaged forms a few times while testing on the roads. But now after many spy shots and renderings, here comes something official. Proton has finally released a teaser video of the new Persona and Iriz on its official YouTube account, which will be making their debuts this week on August 5, 2021.

As per the teaser, the two Proton cars are going to get significant updates inside out. The clip firstly shows the new Proton Iriz and Persona silhouettes with the caption “Get ready for new experiences”. On the exterior, we can see a new front grille with a new circular Proton logo in the centre, new colours, new bumpers, LED headlights, a blacked-out roof with silver rails, and new wheels. 

Proton also revealed some interior shots of the upcoming cars, according to which we can expect to see red trimmings, new frames for the centre console and head unit, and leather seats with red stitching. In terms of technology, the new Persona and Iriz are likely to get a new floating-style infotainment display, voice-controlled AC and windows, and new digital AC controls. Also visible in the clip are three cupholders just next to the handbrake and a gear selector in the ‘S’ position.

As far as the mechanical details are concerned, there is no official information. But we expect the two models would retain their current powertrains. The ongoing Proton Persona is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power output of 109 PS and a peak torque of 150 Nm. A five-speed manual and a CVT automatic are the two available gearbox options.

The current Proton Iriz, on the other hand, comes with two engine options - a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine good for making 95 PS and 120 Nm and a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 109 PS and 150 Nm. The transmission options include a five-speed manual and a CVT.

About the prices, it is expected that Proton will price the updated models a bit higher than the pre-facelift versions on account of added bits. Well, for that, we need to wait a couple of days more.
