2021 Porsche Panamera new variants revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche introduced the facelifted Panamera back in August, and now it is all set to add more updated trims to the already long list. The new range comprises the three updated versions of the Panamera, including the most powerful Turbo S E-Hybrid, 4 E-Hybrid, and 4S.
Out of these, two are plug-in hybrids that make Porsche’s Panamera PHEV count to three, including the earlier unveiled Panamera 4S E-Hybrid. All versions are available in sedan, long-wheelbase Executive, and Sport Turismo forms and have received an updated battery pack of 17.9 kWh in place of the earlier 14.1 kWh.
Starting with the Turbo S E-Hybrid, it is the flagship Porsche Panamera hauled by the familiar 563 hp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a 134 hp electric motor. The combined output of the system has now been increased to 699 PS and 870 Nm of peak torque from last year's 686 PS and 848 Nm.
This enables the Sedan as well as Sport Turismo variants to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 315 kmph, while the Executive does the same in 3.1 seconds. The 2021 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is not only the most potent Panamera variant, but it is also the second most powerful Porsche available in the market.
Another notable highlight is the all-electric driving range which, according to the automaker, is increased by 30% courtesy of the new battery back and optimized driving modes.
Coming to the 2021 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, the car houses a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 mill and the same electric motor for a combined output of 461 PS. It takes 4.2 seconds to hit the 100 kmph and bells the top speed of 280 kmph.
Last on the list is the new Panamera 4S, it is also powered by the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine producing a blistering output of 439 PS. The acceleration time from 0-100 kmph is 3.9 seconds and the top speed is rated at 294 kmph. All the new trims are mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
On the styling notion, the Turbo S E-Hybrid makes a stand out appearance with its dual C-shaped Turbo headlights and bigger side air intakes. The rear end also features a new full-width LED strip. The two new exterior colors - Cherry Metallic and Truffle Brown Metallic and the new 20- and 21-inch wheels complete its updated look.
The order books for the new Panamera variants are now open in North America and Europe, but pricing is yet to be announced.
