2020 Volkswagen Passat is in Malaysia, solitary trim priced at RM 189,012

KUALA LUMPUR: Looking for a new four-wheel companion in the shape of a D-segment sedan? Head nowhere than a Volkswagen dealership near you as Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM), the official distributor of the German automaker in the country has just launched the facelifted 2020 Passat for the Malaysian masses. While the sedan was previously available in three trims, the refreshed model will only be offered in a single trim, the 2.0 TSI Elegance.

As fas as the styling of the updated 2020 Volkswagen Passat is concerned, the D-segment sedan is bolstered by the likes of a revisited twin-slat grille, redesigned air intakes, LED headlights with updated graphics, and LED DRLs cum turn-signals which look like eyebrows of the headlamps. The D-segment sedan also flaunts new taillamps with three L-shaped graphics, centre-placed Passat badge, redesigned rear bumper, and grey-colored 18-inch Liverpool multi-spoke alloys.

Hop inside the 2020 Volkswagen Passat and you are greeted by the likes of the cruise control, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, twelve-way powered front seats with memory & massage function for the driver seat, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Making its way to the new Passat specs sheet is also the new 9.2-inch touchscreen Discover Pro infotainment system with eight speakers, reverse camera, and the Wireless AppConnect system that includes Apple CarPlay.

Powering the facelifted D-segment German sedan is a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine that produces 190 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The engine has been detuned and now makes 30 PS and 30 Nm less than the one that powered the pre-facelift sedan. The power is sent to the front wheels via a new seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. As per the new Worldwide Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle, the sedan consumes 6.5 litres/100 km.

Safety equipment onboard includes six SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, side assist blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring system, and others. The 2020 Volkswagen Passant 2.0 TSI Elegance is priced at RM 189,012 without on-the-road insurance.
