2020 Toyota Vios teaser released; official debut set for July 25
KUALA LUMPUR: After a month of unveiling the 2020 Toyota Wigo, the Japanese automaker heads up to showcase one more revamped model. And this time, it is Toyota Vios, referred to as the Toyota Yaris sedan in specific markets.
Toyota Motors Philippines recently confirmed the digital debut of the new Vios facelift, which will be aired on the brand's official Facebook page this Saturday, July 25, 2020. The automaker also released a video teaser of the model ahead of the debut.
If we talk about the changes to be seen in the upcoming Vios, it does not seem to have any dramatic changes, rather expected to feature cosmetic changes only. The teaser reveals the designing cues of the all-new Vios.
Upfront, the sedan features a downturned trapezoidal grille that integrates with slimmer upper grille instead of the controversial big lower grille. It looks similar to the Toyota Corolla Altis or Camry. The grille is edged by narrow air inlets and underlined by a body-colored spoiler.
In addition to that, the 2020 Vios will also have redesigned LED headlights with L-shaped daytime running lights. At the rear end, a new pattern for the taillights and a tweaked bumper to match the front are expected.
Coming to the powertrain, Toyota Vios in Malaysia comes with a 1.5-litre engine only, while the automaker offers two engine options in the Philippines; a 1.3-litre engine and a 1.5-litre engine. For the 2020 iteration, both engines will be carried over and will remain paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
We have not caught a glimpse of the new Vios' interior so far, but assume Toyota will carry over the same cabin layout, although with a handful of new features. It may include the latest touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, etc.
In terms of safety, the new Vios specs sheet is expected to include plenty of airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, parking sensors, hill start assist, ESC, and a reverse parking camera, among other things.
At the moment, there is no official information on the arrival of new Vios in Malaysia, but stay tuned with us for updates.
