2020 Perodua Bezza - Safety and accessories explained

The Perodua Bezza was first launched in Malaysia back in 2016 as a compact A-segment sedan for budget-conscious buyers. Built upon the same underlying architecture as that found in the slightly smaller yet well-liked Axia hatchback, the Bezza soon became one of the home-grown automaker’s best-selling models - surpassing over 180,000 units since its launch.

However, now we have the 2020 Perodua Bezza amongst us - essentially a facelifted and updated avatar of the crowd-favourite model that has been launched just a few days after dealerships began accepting orders. As one can expect, the 2020 Perodua Bezza has been receiving quite a bit of attention from prospective customers who are on the lookout for a decent, well-equipped and well-priced family sedan.

Compared to the model before it, the revised 2020 Bezza comes with more features, improved exterior styling, more comfortable interior ergonomics, and minor tweaks to the car’s suspension along with better handling characteristics. In terms of segment rivalry, the 2020 Perodua Bezza’s primary foe is none other than the even cheaper yet equally popular Proton Saga.

Before going any further, let’s take a quick look at the 2020 Perodua Bezza price in Malaysia.

2020 Perodua Bezza variants Price
G (MT) RM 34,580
G (AT) RM 36,580
X (AT) RM 43,980
AV (AT) RM 49,980

As you may have noticed, unlike before, the 2020 iteration of the Perodua Bezza is now offered with only four variants (unlike the five variants that were available with the 2019MY). Of course, the automaker continues to provide customers the new Bezza with a comprehensive 5-year/150,000-kilometre warranty plan.

However, that is not all. To attract even more buyers to their showrooms, Perodua also offers several unique and useful accessories for the 2020 Bezza, coming from the stables of GearUp. GearUp offers a Stylish Package and the so-called Utility Package, priced at RM 2,120 and RM 340, respectively.

There is also a Dynamic Bodykit which costs RM 2,000 and adds the following:

  • Aggressive-looking front bumper kit with integrated LED guide lights
  •  Sporty rear bumper kit and a boot-integrated spoiler
  •  Side protectors for the doors (offered with the Stylish Package)

Meanwhile, the Utility Package for the new Bezza adds the following:

  •  Insulator for the bonnet and booster cables
  •  Coil mats for the cabin
  •  Additional luggage tray

Some of the GearUp interior accessories for the 2020 Perodua Bezza include items like:

  • Scuff plates with LED illumination - priced at RM 260 per door
  • Door insulator - RM 450
  • Better-quality PVC seat covers - RM 600
  • Centre arm rest with integrated USB port - RM 220
  • Mesh-top coil mats - RM 180
  • Magnetic phone holder - RM 30
  • Luggage mat - RM 75
  • Luggage organiser - RM 37

Of course, customers can also purchase other accessories such as iridium spark plugs, steering lock, fire extinguisher, cabin filter, first-aid kit, sun visor organiser, smart tracker, etc.

Some of the exterior accessories included in the 2020 Perodua Bezza specs are:

  • Chrome window trim - RM 145
  • Door visors - RM 150
  • Anti-theft brackets - RM 130

There is some safety stuff on offer as well… These come in the form of:

  • Infant ISOFIX child seat - RM 785
  • Toddler ISOFIX child seat - RM 975
  • GearUp Smart TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) - RM 430

Some more general accessories you can pick up include the following:

  • Injector cleaner - RM 24
  • Evaporator cleaner - RM 80
  • Throttle body cleaner - RM 36
  • Rain repellent - RM 11.50
  • Headlamp cleaner - RM 10.50
  • Maintenance-free battery - RM 243
  • Leather tissue box - RM 60
  • Multipurpose container - RM 40

The 2020 Perodua Bezza also comes with an updated list of safety equipment, especially when compared to its predecessor. Some of the most noteworthy safety features on the new Bezza are as follows:

  • Dual front airbags - across all variants
  • Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) - available on all variants
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)
  • Traction Control (TRC)
  • Hill-Start Assist (HSA)
  • Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0 - New!

One of the biggest safety additions to the 2020 Perodua Bezza is Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0 suite. ASA brings with it some really important driver-assist features such as…

  •  Pre-Collision Warning (PCW) - up to 100 kmph
  • Pedestrian Detection - up to 50 kmph
  • Pre-Collision Braking (PCB) - up to 80 kmph
  • Front Departure Alert (FDA)
  • Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC)

Thanks to its extensive safety features, the 2020 Perodua Bezza now comes with a gleaming five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.

However, it isn’t just an updated safety features catalogue and extensive accessories list that makes the new Perodua Bezza a better than its precursor - there are a couple more reasons that make its case. To begin with, engineers have tinkered around with the 2020 Bezza’s suspension to make it ride better than before.

The adjustments that have been made, along with the added safety benefits, have also ensured that the new car drives better and feels more stable & secure as well. To add to its improved safety and driving characteristics, the cabin of the new Bezza feels a touch better to travel in than before, too. This is most apparent in the rear seats, which have now been inclined to an angle of 27 degrees - an increase of 4 degrees over the older model.

Are there any real changes made under the hood of the 2020 Perodua Bezza? Well, the simple answer to that is no. However, since this one is more of a facelift rather than a complete remake of the Bezza, this particular factor is in no way a deal-breaker.

The 2020 Perodua Bezza is propelled by either a 1.0-litre three-cylinder or a 1.3-litre four-banger. The smaller motor can be had with a traditional 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed auto, whilst all 1.3-litre variants of the Bezza come equipped with the auto box as standard.
