2020 Honda Civic: Safety explained

The Honda Civic is one sedan to admire, correct? Following its inception in the year 1972, the Japanese compact sedan is doing just as good in the market even in 2020 as it did before. And, in order to give the sales figures a boost, Honda Malaysia recently launched the facelifted model for the Malaysian masses. Available in three different variants, the 2020 Honda Civic carries a price tag of RM 113,600 to RM 139,600, and there are two different engines to choose from.

Variant

Price

Honda Civic 2020 1.8 S

RM 113,600

Honda Civic 2020 1.5L TC

RM 129,600

Honda Civic 2020 1.5 TC-P

RM 139,600

While the base variant is powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder SOHC engine that makes 141 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 174 Nm, the other two models, on the other hand, come housing a turbocharged 4-cylinder, 1.5-litre motors will produce 173PS maximum power and 220Nm peak torque. All three variants get the Honda’s Earth Dreams continuously variable transmission (CVT). So, what else than the potent powertrains makes the Honda Civic a tough contender in the segment? Well, one is the appearance of the compact sedan, and the other is the host of creature comforts making way to the car. However, there is another aspect that makes the 2020 Honda Civic one of the better offerings out there. And, it's the safety equipment onboard. Wondering how? Read on to know.

2020 Civic safety equipment

For starters, the 2020 Honda Civic specs sheet comes with an array of safety features, a 5-year unlimited kilometres warranty, five-year free labour services, and a perfect 5-star safety rating by ASEAN NCAP. The safety features standard across the range include as many as six SRS airbags, rear seat ISOFIX, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handle Assist (AHA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Auto Brake Hold (ABH), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), front & rear parking sensors, multi-view reverse camera, Honda LaneWatch camera, and a security alarm with engine immobiliser.

That is already one big list, isn't it? However, the 2020 Honda Civic isn't one of the safest cars out there just like that, for the top-of-the-line model also features the much-advanced Honda Sensing® safety suite.

Honda Sensing®

What is Honda Sensing®? In Honda's own words, "Honda Sensing® is our exclusive intelligent suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies designed to alert you to things you might miss while driving". On top of the standard safety features, the Japanese automaker's much-touted Honda Sensing® suite of advanced driver assists brings along the likes of:

Lane Departure Warning: In the scenario when the driver starts leaving the current lane without giving a turn signal, this system alerts the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate and giving the warning to get back to the lane.

Road Departure Mitigation: As soon as the driver gets too close to the edge of the road, the system applies brakes and corrects the steering wheel to move away from the edge of the road.

Lane Keep Assist System: This feature corrects the steering wheel as soon as it senses that the vehicle is leaving the current lane. The car is then brought back to the centre of the lane by the system.

Automatic High Beam: When the system detects a vehicle coming from the opposite end, it automatically switches from high beam to low beam.

Forward Collision Warning: This system alerts the driver using visual & audio signals in case there is a chance of a collision at the front.

Collision Mitigation Braking System: The car is automatically slowed down or even brought to a halt if there is a possibility of a collision.

Adaptive Cruise Control: This is an advanced version of cruise control which adjusts the cruising speed based on the speed of the vehicle running ahead of the car.

Low Speed Flow: The car is automatically started & stopped in conjunction with the flow of traffic.

So, these eight were the advanced safety feature or driver aids which make their way to the 2020 Honda Civic courtesy of the Honda Sensing® suite. To sum up, the 2020 Honda Civic is bolder, plusher, and safer than ever before. And, if a compact sedan sporting all these peculiarities has been on your bucket list for long, go no farther than your nearest Honda dealership and get yourself a 2020 Honda Civic. We bet you won't fret a dime over your decision.
