2020 Honda City: All you need to know

2020 Honda City: All you need to know

The success of Honda City has been unprecedented in global markets. It has been a favourite in the Malaysian market as well, showing no signs of ageing so far. Currently, in its fifth generation, City outshines rivals with its refreshing appeal and unmatched cabin experience.

The new elements, reinvent the charm of the premium sedan that has been ruling the roost for long. What’s new on the fifth-gen City and how has it improved over its predecessor? Let’s find out.

2020 Honda City Exterior

The new City not only received styling updates, but it also undergoes a change in proportions, measuring 113 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 10 mm lower. The addition of new elements enhances visual appeal, surpassing its predecessor on most of the fronts. While the solid face remains as it is,

the Honda Civic inspired headlamps and bold chrome grille, incorporate aggression on the front facet. Moving to the flanks, it carries over most of the bits, save for the sharp character line that has been repositioned above the door handles. The wing mirrors are now placed on the above door for enhanced visibility. There is some similarity to other Honda models at the back, as it features reworked tail-lamps reminiscent of insight.

2020 Honda City Interior

There is sufficient space for the occupants despite the marginal reduction of 11 mm in the wheelbase of the new City. It gets balanced by the increased length and width. Speaking of interior styling, the all-new Jazz inspired dashboard looks premium. While most of the features inside have been retained, Honda has worked on the insulation for a quieter cabin experience.

2020 Honda City Engine Specifications

One of the biggest changes in the new Honda City is the addition of a new turbocharged petrol unit. The Honda City specs sheet now comprises of the three-cylinder, direct-injected unit, equipped with dual Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC),

a Variable Valve Timing, Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) and a BorgWarner single-scroll turbocharger. This unit is conjunct to a CVT, while the manual gearbox has been given a miss.

It is available in four variants in Thailand with prices starting from 579,500 baht and going up to 739,000 baht equating RM 80,035 and RM 102,061 in Malaysian currency.

Going by the various changes incorporated in the sedan, a price hike is likely, albeit we have to wait till Honda Malaysia reveals the prices officially. As for the current model, the prices are mentioned in the table below:

The City has advanced over the years in terms of aesthetics, cabin comfort, and features list. Honda has acknowledged the noisy cabin and worked on reducing the NVH levels for a quieter ride experience.

There has been a slight drop in height and wheelbase; though it has been balanced by a significant increase in the sedan's length and width. The major change lies under the hood, as it houses the new turbocharged petrol unit. Hopefully, the Honda City price will justify the changes it undergoes, and remain affordable.
