2019 Tokyo Motor Show: Subaru introduces Levorg Prototype
KUALA LUMPUR: Subaru has finally introduced its all-new Levorg Prototype at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. Although the name comes with the word “Prototype”, reportedly the car is all set to hit the assembly line very soon. Reports also suggest it will arrive in the Japanese market in the second half of next year.
Prior to the official debut, the car appeared in a Japanese magazine, and an official teaser was also released. But from them, nothing but its styling was revealed. Now, it’s time to know more about its exterior, specifically the rear-end and some key features.
First and foremost, like Subaru’s recent models such as Ascent, Impreza, etc., Levorg Prototype is also based on the Subaru Global Platform. The base offers more body rigidity compared to the first-gen outgoing Levorg.
About its exterior, the front of the car looks more angular than the outgoing model. The headlamps are also reshaped, and the lower intake also comes with a subtle lip and dedicated crease. The visuals are more prominent and highlighted at the front. The pointed front grille comes with a hexagonal larger grille, which features a chrome strip.
Compared to the front, the rear doesn’t come with any drastic changes. It features triangular reflector housings. The spoiler on the tailgate gets additional trims on its edges. Apart from the exterior, there is no info available on its interior. We hope to know more about the inside when the production version will be revealed.
Moving to the most crucial part, the oily bits, on which there were no hints, the carmaker has disclosed the car will come with a new turbocharged direct-injected 1.8-litre four-cylinder boxer engine. The engine also comes with lean-burn technology. However, as for now, no output figure is revealed, but expectedly, there will be a Lineartronic CVT and a Symmetrical AWD system.
In terms of the other technical features, Levorg Prototype has Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight system, which comes with a renewed stereo camera setup along with a wider angle. The system is supported by a total of four radar sensors that permit the system to have a 360-deg sense all over the car. Not only this, but Levorg Prototype also comes with a locator by which it can recognize the shape of the road, automatically reduce the speed and assist the driver while going through traffic. Advanced Automatic Collision Notification service is also there. It allows sending an alert to the emergency services operator whenever it detects a big impact from a collision.
