2019 Mini John Cooper Works GP to make its debut at upcoming LA Auto Show
KUALA LUMPUR: The British automotive marque, MINI has announced that the production version of the new John Cooper Works GP will make its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, which will be held between November 22nd to December 2nd. It was the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, where the model was first previewed as the Mini John Cooper Works GP Concept.
Earlier in 2019, MINI took the John Cooper Works GP to the Nürburgring for testing. The early look revealed some signature aero bits including a large spoiler placed and a prominent diffuser at the back. The fender extensions hide the larger wheels and tyres. These styling cues managed to give it an aggressive stance.
The wheels, which were seen then are most likely to be changed. The one which was present at the Nürburgring for testing had plain-looking five-spoke items. Also, this John Cooper Works GP variant comes with a host of chassis tweaks including the model-specific suspension technology.
The manufacturer has claimed that the new Mini John Cooper Works GP will be the fastest road-legal Mini ever. The hatch comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which can provide a maximum power of around 300 hp. The engine is likely to have an automatic transmission.
However, the carmaker has not confirmed whether a manual option will be provided or not. At Nürburgring, Mini confirmed that the vehicle has a lap time of fewer than eight minutes.
The latest Mini John Cooper Works GP will be a limited edition model, just like the previous ones. Mini confirmed that only 3,000 units would go to the production at its facility in Oxford.
