2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS teaser image released ahead of its debut
KUALA LUMPUR: Just ahead of the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the German automaker, Mercedes-Benz has previewed the next-gen CLS. The image released by the automaker highlights the front of the upcoming CLS which reflects restyled headlamps and sharper grille. Whereas, the rest of the profile looks similar to the outgoing model.
Most of the design features are inherited by the E-Class, while the new powertrain is borrowed from CLS 63 to deliver better performance figures. There will be also a hybrid version that will ensure better efficiency and performance. The top of the line model will be powered by a 3.0-litre unit coupled to a 50kW electric motor with a potential to pump out a maximum power output of 450 hp. The hybrid version will also feature regenerative braking technology that will help in recharging the lithium-ion batteries packed in the car.
The 2019 CLS is specifically designed with a focus on luxury and refinement in order to make a clear gap between the upcoming four-door AMG GT. Other highlighting features of the upcoming CLS include Active Lane Change Assist, Speed Limit Pilot, and some semi-autonomous driving technology. This time, the CLS will not be offered in any other body style due to low demand for the existing version. It is expected that Mercedes will make the 2019 CLS available in the international market by mid-2018. Let's see how the updated CLS will take on the likes of Porsche Panamera and Audi A7.
